Memmaid, T2K2, SK Tools - what's what? A ton of questions within re. other apps. HELP
I've purchased the following apps for my X51v:
1. Pocket Informant
2. Flex Wallet
3. SBSH PocketWeather
Installed these freeware:
1. Total Commander --> Was going to get Resco Explorer but couldn't justify purchase when (after posts) TC and PHM are equal to Resco. Correct?
2. PHM Reg Editor
3. Magic Button --> Was set on buying Wisbar but changed mind after reading posts re. slowdowns. Did I make the right choice?
4. TCPMP
5. Resco Viewer; plus some minor apps
I was planning to purchase the following:
1. Memmaid
2. SPB Backup --> Is Sprite better?
3. SPB Finance --> contemplating Cash Organizer instead?
4. HiCalc --> also considered 1-Calc and MX Converter/MX Calc. What would you do?
So many questions above (to which I would really appreciate your opinion) but the real question I have for you is, which "maintenance" program do I NEED and WHY? I thought getting Memmaid would do but just realized there's other similar (but different) apps out there (eg, Tweaks2K2, SK Tools - these 2 are the ones I read about). Are these essential apps? Why? I was skimming thru what Tweaks2K2 does but didn't seem important enough to get - did I miss something? Please educate me as to which app(s) is a MUST BUY by highlighting the reasons/features.
SK or MemMAid are must haves. I like MemMaid better, I think SK is too harsh and deleted items that need not be deleted. Now T2k2 just makes all that tweaks we need, sure you could do this by yourself but 2k2 makes it so much easier, I do not use this app, but I really understand why it is so popular.
as for backups, SPB backup is realtively new solution and as a conservative choice I would get Sprite
I have SkTools and Tweaks2K2.net myself. I have to agree with Jukov that either SKTools and/or MemMaid are must-haves; which you obtain probably depends on personal preference and upon which you may have encountered first.
I do use an SKTools feature to run an automated cleanup process that is scheduled to occur daily, just prior to the automated and scheduled backups to ensure that the backups are as clean as is reasonably possible. I do not know if MemMaid has the feature or not.

I have SK Tools, Pocket Mechanic and Tweak2K2. Haven't used Memmaid. There is a lot of overlap in functions among the three I have, but each has some features that the others don't. Of the three, probably Pocket Mechanic is the least essential, since I have the other two.
Opinions vary - as will you mileage, but here's my 2 cents.
I use Memmaid - Why? Dinarsoft has a forum here (quick support), and I have used their programs before. SKTools (as mentioned) seemed a little harsh, and to me felt a lot rougher around the edges. Despite having a task management application already (magicbutton - good choice by the way) it can't take care of everything. Memmaid cleans out your cache files, registry & allows more control over startup apps, and things of that nature...
I use Spb Backup (although I used Sprite for the 30 day trial). Both are solid applications, both do what they advertise. Spb is more user friendly in my opinion, and its half the price for equal ability. I have had equal luck in restores from both products.
Tweaks2k2.net is another great app. Really it was much more useful to move files out of main memory, but I still love that it turns off the security crap the Dell built in, and I use it change my system font, soft-keys on WM5, and things like that. I'm glad I bought it ... but everyones milage will vary.

It seems way too advanced for my needs. Plus it's $50! I need a calc with currency conversion, units, etc. SpaceTime seems to be a calculator only (but a hell of a calc).
Glad I found this post, I have been loking between MemMaid and SKTools. Only reason I can see to maybe get SKTools is cause you can defrag and manipulate your storage cards and all that. Is this really something that is necessary?

I use MemMaid and SKTools, as each has strengths over the other.
MemMaid - easy interface, one-click fix is easy to get to, frees up storage space on storage cards and built-in RAM easily, configurable to have two 'custom' folders, plus lets you view memory usage on your PDA via an easily-digested format (pie charts and folder views), plus it lets you easily rearrange the startup sequence.
SKTools - does many things, frees up actual PROGRAM RAM for WM5 versus just storage space (which MemMaid does not), lets you tweak various WM settings the way Tweaks2K does, storage card management features. Complex interface, hard to navigate.
The storage card functionality is secondary to me - the fact it CAN free up actual program RAM by unloading various things in GWES and services.exe are what make the program worth it to me, plus its slightly more thorough cleaning process.
