in ur application data\opera\opera.ini try adding following..

[User Agent]
Spoof UserAgent ID=1
Spoof Version Code=0

b4 adding this bit for the ini file i was forwarded by opera to plenty of mobile versions of sites like hotmail and stuff...this one fixes SOME of them...perhaps someone with more tech knowledge of opera can guide us as to how to make surfing on opera more like desktop surfing...

man...i just had a horrible experience with opera :(

i installed it, and changed the ini file so as to put all the files on my SD card. i used it for two weeks, and LOVED it...it was fast, and web pages opened beautifully. then one day, the program crashed. i thought, no biggie, i just closed the error window. next thing i realized, is that my whole SD card was wiped out!! nothing, notta....i had important documents on there that i didn't back up :( i paid 40 bux for some data recovery software, and was able to recover only one critical document :( <sigh>

Unfortunately, this problem is pretty common with all kinds of relocated cache - not just that of Opera, but also that of PIE. See for example the user reports at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/arti..._the_cache.htm

I'm not quite understanding this. Should we all be fearful that our SD cards will be wiped by a browser's cache? Is there a preventative besides backup?

It may do this. It's very rare though and I don't know whether it also happens with properly formatted/optimized cards too, or with just unoptimized ones because I (who always heavily optimize my cards) keep the cache in RAM whenever possible (that is, on pre-WM5 devices) and haven't run myself into problems like this.

Thanks for the heads up. Forwarned. Sprite backup running as we speak!

I've decided those two annoyances are opera's way of making sure we migrate out of beta as soon as possible.

Has anyone tried all the tweaks from beta1. Do they work in beta2? I'm assuming I'll be editing my ini files this evening.
actually, i'm on wm5...(and i was when i asked the question a couple weeks ago too...haha.)

so is it possible to have a ram-only-cache for opera beta 2 on wm5? cache on the ROM is waaaay to slow with NOR's write speeds, and i'm paranoid about putting the cache on my sd because of reports of people loosing all their data on their cards.
it would be nice if opera could just cache to ram, and have that clear upon closing of the program

(what does the "automatic ram cache" setting in the ini file do exactly? is that what i'm looking for?)

Yup, this is a known problem on the x51v. I've elaborated on the solution at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ind...3&p=558&more=1

(It's really worth following my blog - or, at least, using its Search facility. For example, if you enter 'opera crash' in the engine, on the second page you'll see the relevant article.)
