Anyone using your axim as a Mosquito Prevent ?

this is really funny , check this out http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=4618

Application Description
Why should your PocketPC rest while you are sleeping? Especially when obtrusive mosquitos stop you from relaxing or even bite you.

Now you can stop looking for expensive devices to keep them away. Thanks to Mosquito Prevent your PocketPC can provide the same job.

The program plays a high tone in endless loop mode, which is supposed to keep mosquitos and their like on distance.
Three different tone levels: 9.000 Hz
16.000-20.000 Hz
22.000 Hz
You can toggle the display with the Media Player to save battery power

System requirements:

Pocket PC 2000, 2002, Windows Mobile 2003 & SE
Screen: 240x320 Pixel or higher
Processors: Samsung, XScale, StrongARM, MIPS, SH3

I assume this frequency drives mosqitos crazy, and humans cant hear it. Sounds like a great idea, although i wouldnt imagine paying money for it.

i can see the mosquitos now with their little wireless headphones, probably changing the frequency every once in while just for grins.

Aren't Mosiquitos DEAF like bees? The US army has a skeeter repeller/catcher but it works with propane to produce CO2, which is what they are attracted to.

i'd thought the mosquitos would be attracted to the light given off by the pda screen...

I saw this on another site. Seems to be that those in the know electonicly wise doubt that a hand helds speaker will generate the frequency required to make this work. But I have not seen anything that makes me beleive that the whole theroy will work anyway.

No need for it. For all practical purposes there are no mosquitos in the Seattle area. They breed in shallow, stagnant water and most of the water here is deep or fast moving. Or falling from the sky!

I'm pretty sure 9kHz and 16-20kHz are within standard human hearing range (~20Hz - 20kHz), so this program will probably drive you crazy as well (assuming you still have good hearing...). I'm also not so sure how well the internal Axim speaker would play these high-pitched noises...
