Question pocket eSword Bible

I simply loved pocket esword! I had 2 bibles, a dictionary and commentary on my sd 128mg. card and everything worked well on last week. I had no problems on my Dell X5 Win 2003, until very recently when the software stopped locating my bible or other add ons. See below:

First ERROR: No pocket eSword Bibles located in \Progam files\Pocket esword.

And then a resource location pops up with a tree of file locations.

Once I clicked on the red X, ERROR: a native exception occurred.
exception code: 0xc0000005
Address: 0x01f83ac8
Reading: 0x16408558
OK to terminate.
Cancel to debug.

I have tried numerous fixes:

Completely deleted the 2003 software (including the microsoft Framework amd SQL)from my pda and home computer that runs XP.

Rebooted the computer, soft reset the pda, conducted a clean reinstallation of pocket eSword 2003(3-4 times).

Tried the same with esword 2002 -- no luck.

Checked the sd card for errros, cleaned and formatted, partitioned and reloaded it with bibles, comemtaries and dictionaries by moving the ebooks from a desktop folder to the sd card.

Created a folder on the sd card and named it "My Documents". Named the subfolder "bibles". I placed all bibles, comemtaries and dictionaries in it.

Resourc location pops up, and I tap on sd card,
my documents, bibles.

ERROR: Error opening dictionary module "sd card\my documents\bibles\strong.dct" I click OK. then,

ERROR: Error opening devotional module\sd card\my documents\bibles\words of christ, the dev. I click OK. then,

ERROR: No pocket eSword Bibles located in \Progam files\sd card\my documents\bibles.

I really liked this porgram much better than olive tree.

Can anyone help me, please?

I love eSword too, and I use it on my PC as well as my Axim! Amazing that it's free, and quite frankly, it is better than the program I bought for my wife...

This sounds like an intermittent problem I experience with my CF card in general. In this case, I installed the eSword application into main memory and the Bibles, commentaries, etc onto my 1GB CF card. The errors crop up because there is a problem with the Axim (could be the OS or the hardware, nobody is really sure) whereby the Axim "loses" the CF card (SD card too?) under certain circumstances and I have not found any way to fix it short of a reset (press the RESET button on the back).

I'd suggest searching these forums for "CF card" or something like that. It might help.

Your case may be a little different though as it seems that you can still access your SD card. The next time you encounter the error, try to use File Explorer to view your SD card. If you can, it may be some setting within eSword that is causing it to look in the wrong place for the files.

Jeff.

I appreciate your quick response, Jeff. There was a file that I deleted from my sd card during one of the "fixes". It simply stated "ignore my docs". It had not been there prior to dealing with pocket eSword. And, with my last clean install, it's no longer there.

Did you hard reset, and is that what you're suggesting that I perform?

hard reset should not be necessary.

I have chosen to go with Olive Tree. Rick Meyers answered an email that I sent, and stated "You cannot use the e-Sword modules in Pocket e-Sword."

I don't understand. Although Olive Tree is nice enough, it doesn't offer a free bible atlas or dictionaries. I did however download Henry's concise commentary. Thanks to all responses.

You might also look at Laridian's offerings...

I did use the modules listed on the pocket e-sword page. Why would I try pc modules on my Dell?

Q. for anyone,

Can the olive tree bible reader open bibles or commentaries, maps etc. from other sites, like public domain? Any experienced bible lovers? Thanks.

Denise

I'm ok now with Olive Tree on my X5, and I just downloaded e-sword to my desktop (for the maps and the Apostolic Bible). However, no complete henry's commentary. O, well.

Denise,

I see your problem now (sorry for misunderstanding it before).

What Rick was referring to is that you cannot just copy the modules from your PC to your Axim, you need to "install" them like any other Pocket PC application (i.e. do the following to get the modules to work on the Axim):

1. Download the Pocket PC version of the module, NOT the PC version
2. Get an Active Sync connection to your Axim
3. "Install" the Pocket PC version of the module by double clicking on it from your PC (just like other software programs)

That was probably overkill. Since you are wanting Henry's Complete Commentary, you are obviously very intelligent and quite capable of figuring that out...hehehe

I am using Pocket eSword right now on my Axim x51v. I have the following Bibles:
ASV, CEV, ESV (my favorite), GNT, GNT-TR, GNT-V, GNT-WH, KJV, KJVR, LITV

the following commentaries:
Matthew Henry Complete, Matthew Henry Concise, Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge. I am going to download John Gill's if it is available, just haven't had time.

and the following Dictionaries:
Easton, Nave, Strong, and Torry.

I guess my point is that you can use eSword effectively on an Axim x51V. My gripes with it are minor:

1. No "exit"
2. I wish I could install 50 modules at the same time!
3. eSword hangs when I put the Axim to sleep when it is still running

That said, I like it better than Laridian (my wife has that one), butI have not tried Olive Tree.

Hope that helps!
Jeff.

Oh, also, I believe a "soft reset" is when you "press and release" the button on the back, and a "hard reset" is when you "press and hold" (for a few seconds) the button on the back.

Think of a "soft reset" as turning it off and back on. No data loss.

Think of a "hard reset" as "return to factory condition". All data is lost and the unit is restored to whatever ROM verison of WM5 you have on the unit.

Jeff.

Ok, Jeff, I think you are saying that I should download the files to my desktop instead of just installing them to my axim X5, is that right? My soft reset button is on the side of my axim, that what was so confusing about the "reset" issue,
I have a 1 gig sd card also, so I think that I will use it. Thanks again.
