Can't install Opera 8.5 b2

My x50 complains that the CAB file is invalid. It opens fine on the desktop and I have tried re-downloading a few times. (Yes, I am getting the WM2003 version.)

(I gotta get something installed, Opera b1 screwed up my PIE and now I can't open .htm files!)

hmm.... No idea why... Btw, if it opens on the desktop, that is NO indication that it will work on the PPC. Try extracting that .cab file on your desktop, transfer the contents, then running files. I dont think that will work. If all else fails, hard reset.

I've seen that error before with CAB files before. A soft reset always did the trick for me.

Soft reset did not save me.

Inside the cab file is an XML file and a bunch of other junk. Nothing I can execute if I copy the uncompressed data to the device. Drat.

you don't unzip the CAB file! you just copy the CAB file over to your Pocket PC and tap on it to install it.

Remove your installation of Opera Beta1. If you have maintenance software like sktools or memmaid, run that as well, cleaning out cache files and dead links.

Soft reset and clean as many files as you can.

If you are comfortable using a registry editor, make sure there are no references to Opera.

If you can, copy the cab file directly to the ppc. Don't install using activesync.

Install in the default location. That can be fixed later.

There is a fix for the opera as default browser on the Opera website. This should be applied even if you install beta 2

Fixing PIE can be tricky, but again, I have had success by getting rid of all cache files.

Good Luck. I'm using opera on both the pc and ppc and think it's great.

Right, windows shouldn't. Use activesync to just drag the cab file to your pocketpc. Then, click the cab file (from your pocketpc) to install it. Voila!
If it still doesn't work, let us know.
