I've been looking for a good text-to-speech solution for the Pocket PC for some time now. The only thing I found working was Flite but it is very limited in features (understandable since its a freeware) and can only handle a few lines of text at a time. Not useful at all if you want text-to-speech for your ebooks and stuff. Another option was Fonix which I think is a cut down version of MS Voice Command. The only thing it has got over Voice Command is that it can read emails. Again, not very useful for large files.
I've been playing with Sakrament Teller PDA Edition for a while now and really like what I see. It can handle large files and the TTS engine is pretty good too. Plus it has all the necessary features you'd want in a reader.
You mean I have wasted all this time READING when my axim could have read to me?! Neat soo neat!
Going to try the demo now. But does it sound all monotone and robotticie?
hehe.. of course it does! Even on the PC the highly complicated speech synthesizers sound robotic. And on the PPC you can only expect so much with the hardware limitations.

hmm.. I didn't have any problems even with a 350 page (in teller terms) ebook in text format. everything was flawless. It might be a WM5 issue.. I donno.

I never understood why Text-To-Speech sounded so badly, lke a robot. The very old TI 99/4a computer had a nice little add-on Speech Synthesizer that could sound perfect. It could be just like Hall in 2001. Too bad no one has ever taken the programming out of that thing to see how it works. Most of them sound like Daleks in Dr. Who.
Is it just me - I seem to be hearing echo when the Elena or John was speaking. It gets worse if I put on my headphone. Is there a way to get around it? I installed the highest spec voice - 22Khz but it still has the echo. To be honest, Flite's voice may be robotic like Stephen Hawkings but it is clear. This isn't.
