My X50v running Windows Mobile 2003 second edition began having some hardware problems. So, I took a couple of special backups using Sprite Backup. I took one as a self-extracting .exe and the other as a normal Sprite backup file. In both of these two special backups I unchecked the box under exclusion rules to omit persistent storage and also uncheck the exclusion rules themselves. I had to use a 2GB CF card to get enough space to contain them; it thought it woulod be slightly larger than a 1GB card.
So, the questions:
- Am I correct that this backed up BIS?
- When the replacement X50V arrives, will I be able to restore BIS?
- Given that the .exe is compressed and is 28.7MB as saved on my PC, will I run into storage problems during the restore on the PPC? I did not have that much combined storage+program available.
- Given that I can restore as I plan, will it be more advantageous to use one backup over the other? I realize I would have to install Sprite Backup first in order to restore the native backup.
I also realize that I can simply reinstall, but this seemed like a reasonable time to try out this feature of Sprite. I've done a number of hard resets and restores successfully, but those do not wipe BIS, of course.
Any advice from actual experiences is welcome!
