Printing to network with JetCet
I downloaded the lastest version of JetCet for WM5. It supports network printing however the printer configuration must use \\server name\port. It wants the name of a shared printer on another PC. My desktop machine is dead and the laptop is not always on. I have a Brother MFC 3820CN and an HP laserjet. The Brother is a network-connected printer and the laserjet connects via a D-Link DP-300U print server.
Westtek technical support suggested using IPP to configure the printer. The print server supports IPP, but I could not configure the printer in JetCet. It told me the URL was invalid. I wanted to verify the URL with D-Link, but documentation regarding IPP seemed to be non-existent and technical support didn't think IPP would work from inside the local network.
I have emailed Brother to determine if the MFC supports IPP, but after scanning the docs I don't believe it does.
Googling for IPP or DP-300U didn't offer anything that would help. Does anyone have any ideas or another approach? I guess I can make sure the laptop is on and use its printers...
