Application for offline reading of RSS feeds?
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a program that downloads RSS feeds to my axim x51v for offline viewing. Any suggestions?

One of these News Readers is what you are seeking. I have used Egress and bought PocketRSS and NewsBreak (and bought HandRSS and QuickNews for Palm). For the PPC, my preference is NewsBreak. If you use FireFox on your PC, get the SAGE extension and you can import/export your RSS feeds in OMPL format to keep them the same on your PC and PPC (and backed up to each other).
RSS is usually headline style information. If you want to have the details behind those headlines you will either need a connection to get the information dynamically or have the information brought down and cached ahead of time. I use the connection method myself. Those who prefer the cache method often prefer Egress as a news reader.

I'm not sure if Newsbreak is what I'm looking for. I want to be able to read full articles offline (including pictures). These are the sites I'm most interested in:
BoingBoing
Dilbert
Engadget
The Superficial
any suggestions? :rolling:

FeederReader will read all the information in the text feed and will cache images that exist within the feed. Plus it handles all types of podcast feeds.

I like PocketRss because of the ability to be able to read the articles on the Today Screen with PocketBreeze.
PocketRss doesn't have the functionality that FeederReader has, but no today plugin support puts it at a close second.

I usually have about 200+ feeds with about 30-40 of them being audio or video podcasts, and a Today Screen plugin is less useful simply because of the volume of messages. I'm stress testing with over 1300+ feeds, and FeederReader is still holding up.
I'll record "Today Screen" as a feature request for future implementation.
Thanks for the suggestion! If you ever change your mind or want to make more suggestions, I'd love to hear them over at the FeederReader Forums ( www.FeederReader.com sidebar "Forums")

Does FeederReader really need the newer .net compact framework (not neccessarily the 2.0)? I've been hesitant to upgrade that due to space considerations which has kept me from taking FeederReader out for a spin. Everything else on my X50V works with the .net CF that is in ROM.

You might consider installing the Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 in main memory, and installing FeederReader on your Storage Card with your feed data. That way, the installation files won't be taking up your RAM.
There are some bugs in the older Compact Framework 1.0 SP2 and SP1 that prevent some feeds from downloading and/or parsing properly in FeederReader.
It should generally work and function properly, but my ability to help you solve any problems with it is limited.
I only officially support and test using SP3, but if you try a previous version and have problems, please mention your Compact Framework version if you post to the FeederReader Forums.

Ilium has just released Version 1.2 of NewsBreak so it may be worth having another look.
http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/nw/nb_supt2.htm#upgr
"Version 1.2 of NewsBreak, released in April 2006 for Smartphones and Pocket PCs, is the current version of NewsBreak. Version 1.2 adds full Windows Mobile 5.0 support and softkeys, support for high-resolution Smartphones, support for Atom 1.0, and many other usability improvements as well. "

You can also read menneisyys' article on relocating most of the .Net package to a CF card.

I installed it to BIS and it works fine from there for me.
