I'm wondering how many people store all their programs on a SD/CF card. What would the advantages/disadvantages be? (keeping in mind I don't plan on taking out the SD/CF card often)
Aside from programs which "must" be installed in main memory in order for the thing to boot properly (i.e. spb software, pocketbreeze, etc.), I install all my other crap on the SD card. I store all my music and videos on a CF card. Using an X51v, by the way.

That's how I do it. I have a 512mb SD card that I keep in my x51v all the time. This is my installed programs drive and anything I use. I recently purchased a 8gb microdrive that I will use as storage of movies, music, pictures... basically I use my microdrive as "My Documents" where I keep everything.
The SD card is memory, so its faster. I think SD is faster then CF anyway.
I have a basic load that I keep on my Axim like today plugins, WiFiForum, PocketPlus, etc.... that I install to the internal memory for faster response and startup. I keep it to a minimum.
ok. So which of these programs "must" be stored in memory?
iLauncher
Pocketbreeze
PI
Sprite Backup
MemMaid
Handyswitcher
Handymenu
e-book readers?
I put PocketBreeze, MemMaid, PocketPlus, WiFiForum in main.... maybe Sprite Backup.
HandySwitcher uses very little memory... Heck i'd install that in main too.
Only a few programs will ask you where to install (SD, CF, or Main) yet still install to a default directory in Main regardless.
I install aim and adobe reader to an SD card because I don't use aim much and adobe reader takes up too much memory. Everything else I put in ram, and ram runs much faster than sd.
A disadvantage to running program from memory cards is that if you turn off your pda while the program is still running, when you turn your pda back on the program gives a lot of error messages.
The stuff in RAM:
The OS
Avantgo
Card Export
SPB pocket plus
Registry editor
a couple calculators and scientific programs
wifi power
emails
all documents (since it backs up with every sync by default).

That's where I put most of mine for testing and usually it is working OK. I also put some to the BIS (Built-in storage) Look at my PDA I have put information there.

I've run games and had several opened Skycape books from my SD card, and I never get any error messages when I turn the PDA off/on. Oh, and my iGuidance maps are also on my SD card, and no errors there either.
I am using X50v with WM5. I installed most programs in SD card but I found many of them may EXIT after the X50v turned off and turned back on. The programs I encountered the unexpected behaviour are:
Wisbar Advance 2
Resco Explorer
Pocket Informant
Avantgo (a error message show up said file missing then EXIT, everytime)
Resco Viewer
Should the above programs must be installed in Internal Storage(ROM)? Or is it just me who have the problem?
I install EVERYTHING onto my SD card, so I can swap out the CF card for my Wifi or BT cards (I have an X5). If it doesn't work loaded on the SD card, then I install it to my main memory.
All of these are on my SD:
Pocket Breeze
TextMaker
Eval (great little calculator)
Stop Time
GSPlayer
ThemeKingPlus
Magic Button
iLauncher (tried the trial version)
Total Commander
WebIS Toolbox
CabInstall
ftxBrowser
Dockware
MortPlayer
PocketRAR
TkCreator
XnView Pocket
Resco File Explorer
Widcomm BT drivers
Linksys WiFi drivers
These are in main memory:
Dell Keyboard drivers
Laridan - Pocket Bible and Daily Reader - all books loaded to SD
MSMoney
