Well the wait is over, hopefully. Gotta love the way those guys designed the PDU format. I got 1's and 0's dancing around in my head now, but the PDU mode seems to work. The mode can be changed from Text to PDU (new default) in the options panel. I'll need to implement character set handling and, eventually, manual SMSC configuration - but that will be after I grab some Z's (and go to the office!).
Paired device, BT profile shows DIal up networking and serial connection active.
Can dial up internet and transfer files, BT keyboard, print to BT printer.
Start zSMS and get "no device selected".
Phone was connected to internet at time, and also tried not connected.
I have CF 2.0 installed w/ the latest version of zSMS. I have a moto V3 on a cingular plan...
I get a 'Communication Timed Out' message when I attempt to receive the message. I've tried using both PDU and Text mode.. any ideas??
EDIT:
Rolled back to 0.1 and it works fine! Now the real question....
any way to get BlueTooth Dialing as well???? A similar interface would be fine, but have it so the PDA sends a number to the phone and you can then pick up the phone and take the call??

The "No device selected" message is displayed when zSMS starts and does not have a preferred device configured (this usually happens on the first launch). Going to the Options panel (it should be displayed automatically in that case) and selecting your phone from the dropdown listbox should fix this.

Weird. I kind of "rushed" 0.2 out since so many people had issues with Text mode. Once I get the time to go over the code and clean up some areas it should fix your issue.
As far as BT dialing goes, it should be somewhat easy to do. I'll see if I can put this into the next release.

I also get Communication timed out with both PDU and Text. Using an Axim X51v and a Motorola MPx220.
Thank you bbousquet. This is a great piece of software. I have 2 little requests.
Could you plz check if BT is turned on and activate it if not? And the BT dial feature would be great.
I'd love reports of success/failure with specific device combos so I can focus on specific issues.
Ideally, please post the following:
- success/failure
- which mode was used (text and/or PDU)
- PDA brand, model and OS version
- phone brand, model, country, network type (GSM, CDMA, TDMA, etc.)
Hopefully, version 0.3 will include more detailed diagnostics which should enable me to pinpoint the location of the failure.
There is also a known outstanding issue with the "Communication timeout" case, which doesn't always properly close the BT socket.
Current compatible devices (tested with my Axim X51v):
Motorola RAZR v3 [Canada, GSM, Fido], Text and PDU work properly
Nokia 6670 [Canada, GSM, Fido], PDU works (Text not tested)
Sony Ericsson S700i [Canada, GSM, Fido], PDU works
Sony Ericsson T610 [Canada, GSM, Fido], Text works (PDU not tested) *tested with 0.1*
Sony Ericsson T637 [Canada, GSM, Rogers], PDU works (Text not tested)
Current compatible devices (from user feedback):
Motorola RAZR v3 [USA, GSM, Cingular], Text works *tested with 0.1*
Motorola RAZR v3 [Germany, GSM, T-Mobile]
Motorola RAZR v3 [Ireland, GSM, O2], Text and PDU work properly
Motorola V600 [Italy, GSM, TIM]
Motorola V620 [Italy, GSM, TIM]
Current incompatible devices (from user feedback):
Motorola MPx220 [GSM]
Success
PDU
X51v - WM5
Motorazr V3 (I think its GSM. Provider: T-Mobile Germany)
And I have yet another 2 requests:
Text edit mode (cut, copy, paste) would be nice.
Is there a possibility to integrate your program with pocket outlook somehow?
Can we do anything else besides testing? I'm not a skilled programmer, but willing to learn.

By the way. I got lots of error because I simply forgot to enable Bluetooth. Be sure to have BT enabled. Therefor my request for automatic BT activation.

Those will hopefully be part of release 0.3. I was hoping to have an entry on the Pocket Outlook context menu, saying "Send SMS..." that would launch zSMS. I already took a look at what's needed to add this - it's just a matter of finding the time to do it :)

By the way, I very much appreciate the feedback I'm getting - it sure helps having a number of people trying it out with different phones.
It seems something isn't getting buttoned up properly on my phone. I haven't figured out exactly how long it takes, but, if I wait for a while (longer than half an hour) and attempt to send another text message, the attempt fails. If I go into my phone and attempt to powercycle the bluetooth radio, it hangs the phone. If I power cycle the entire phone, it works fine. It seems maybe something is getting stuck open on the phone side??
I believe the download is around 24 Mb, although only ~2 Mb ends up on the PDA. Just go to that link and click on the ".NET Compact Framework Version 2.0 End-User Redistributable" sublink.
.NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package
Download the most recent update to the Microsoft .NET Framework and get everything you need to run applications developed using the .NET Framework.
Download x86 version
Download x64 version

The one you need is the .NET Compact Framework 2.0, since it will be installed on your PDA.
