Success!

I no longer have the long term problem with something seeming to hang on the phone. I did have to switch the mode over to text, but everything seems to be working well now!

Thanks so much for this app! Awesome!

EDIT:

Scratch that... it still seems to develop a problem over time. I will eventually get a communication timeout error. After this occurs, if I turn the BT radio back on and launch the program again, everything slows to a crawl and then locks up. If I reset the axim, the software works properly again.

zSMS 0.4 released

zSMS 0.4 is now available for Windows Mobile 5.0 (ARMV4I)

This release includes the frequently-requested Pocket Outlook integration feature (it adds an entry to the Contacts context menu) as well as basic Bluetooth management (activating/deactivating the radio as needed). The Pocket Outlook integration will require a soft reset of the device during the uninstallation and the Bluetooth management is configurable from the Options panel (it is active by default).

--

Comments:
- Now that most of the features have been implemented, I'll try to iron out the communication issues some of you are experiencing;
- That Outlook context menu was a pain to code. It seems to work properly on my end, but I'd love to hear about how it behaves on yours.

As always, feel free to share your thoughts regarding issues with the software. Feature requests are welcome as well. Right now I have had requests for a Bluetooth dialing feature and I know I have to implement proper SMS character set and service center handling. Multipart messages are but a distant thought still, however, as is the retrieval of messages from the phone itself.

Just tried out the new version. Auto BT On/off seems to work fine. But I can't find the Outlook menu. I'm using pocket informant as my default PIM. But even with PI turned off the menu doesnt appear.

Its supposed to appear when i tap'n'hold a contact, isn't it?

Yes.

Could you confirm the installer copied zSMSMenu.dll to the \Windows folder? It should also have written a new registry value in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Extensions\ContextMe nus\Contacts\Main_ContextMenu\{someguid}

When tapping and holding a contact in the main contact list, the context menu should contain "Send zSMS..." as its last entry.

This program rocks! I'm in Australia, using Moto v600 on pre-paid vodafone account. It works like a charm!

If I may put in one request...is there a way to retrieve SMS to the Axim when my mobile receives the SMS? I'm not sure if this is possible, but I didn't think it would hurt to ask.

Also...how do you make sure if you're phone and the PPC is paired. I had to send something over to the phone to make sure it was paired, but is there another way?

Z.

I'm happy to hear you're enjoying my little piece of software.

Regarding your BT question:

- Go to Start/Settings/Connections/Bluetooth (or click the Bluetooth tray icon) and then click the Devices tab.

If your phone is listed in the list box:
- tap and hold it, then pick Edit from the context menu and ensure that the checkbox for Dial-up Networking is indeed checked

If your phone is not listed in the list box:
- ensure your phone's Bluetooth radio is enabled and that it is "discoverable"
- click on "New partnership..." in the list box (on your PDA)
- your phone should come get discovered by the PDA. Select it and follow the prompts (this will usually require creating a PIN that will also have to be entered on the phone itself to complete the pairing). Ensure that the checkbox for Dial-up Networking is checked - if the phone does not offer DUN, zSMS will not function properly

[I'll probably post this on the main zSMS webpage]

I am having the exact same problem. I looked for the above and found both, so apparently the installer did its job correctly. Any ideas?

No "Send zSMS" for me either. And I do have the registry entry you said to look for.

Maybe there another application getting in the way?

I believe I forgot to register the COM object. It was probably done automatically as I was debugging. Will try and fix it ASAP.

zSMS 0.4.1 released

zSMS 0.4.1 is now available for Windows Mobile 5.0 (ARMV4I)

This is an update to the 0.4 release. It should now properly register the menu extension COM DLL (which adds to the Pocket Outlook context menu).

http://software.zone17.com

Turns out I forgot to have the COM DLL self-register during installation. This should fix it.

BB...

When I have my BT turned on BEFORE I send a SMS, it works great. But when I have it turned off and I hit the "Send" button, the programs turns my BT on and tries to send the SMS. However, before it can send it, communication get timed out. Can you make this a bit longer so that it doesn't get timed out so quickly? Thanks!

Z.

The menu item is visible now. But if i try to click it i get an error stating "failed to launch zsms". The DLL file is present in my windows folder.

Let me guess: you have a non-English version of WM5 and I hardcoded the executable path because it was like 4AM when I wrote that piece of code?

All I get is no device selected, please select one - but no menu appears or any way of selecting one. Device is paired, what BT profile does it need? Mine offers Dial up and serial port?

Any thoughts?
