Aximsitex50icon Native Word/excel/powerpoint

(NASCAR #6 & #9 Fan!!) I'm new to the Axim community. Having been a Palm OS guy for nearly half a decade, I've defected to the Dell camp and recently (to the amazement of my friends and co-workers) purchased a brand, spanking new x51v running Windows Mobile 5.

However, I have found Pocket Word, Excel, Powerpoint to be somewhat lacking, as (unless I am mistaken) the documents are not imported to the device in their native format but must be converted to be viewed/edited on the Axim. (Palm had a very nice application written by DataViz that worked with native Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe files.) In the conversion, some formatting features of the files (particularly with Word) are lost/changed, which is most annoying.

My question for the forum: Is there a 3rd party application/suite that exists that will allow me not only to view, but edit native versions of these documents on my x51v?

Hello,

I have W2003SE and a X50V, but it should be the same for your machine. Pocket Word and Excel (and surely Powerpoint) do use the natice Office format. All you need to do is set the Conversion rules in the settings of ActiveSync.

Here's how to do it in ActiveSync 3.8; it should be similar for your device.

- Click on the Options Button
- Click on the Rules tab
- Click on the Conversions Settings button (middle of the screen)
- Click on the Device to Desktop tab
- Click on Microsoft Word Document to select it, then click on the Edit... button
- In the roll-down menu, select (no conversion) (.doc)
- Repeat for the Excel and PowerPoint Document
- Click on the Desktop to Device tab, and repeat the procedure.

There you're all done.

If you are a big Word Power user, I also suggest TextMaker, which is light years ahead of Pocket Word. If not Pocket Word is still a great application (and it's free!)
