I don't have the program that came for my spectec sdio wifi card, so the radio is always on when it's connected to the device. are there any programs that work with a broad range of wifi radios that can manage connections and such?

I am sure there is one out there, maybe on pocket gear, anyways, you could always email the manufactorer and see if they can set you up a link to the software. Be patient, I am sure someone here uses the utility you are looking for.
