The new version is out, so give it a spin! :approve:

I'm dropping the project since it now does everything that *I* need it to. As it stands, it'll safely turn off your Pocket PC in a set time period. And this being a tiny utility I don't think it needs any spiffy new features. It was fun to develop, and it's really helping me out by effectively adding more time to my batteries by cutting down on those harmful power drains.

Have fun with it, I'm glad if it helps you too, that's the reason I posted it here in the first place!

Best Regards,

The new version is complete!

DOWNLOAD THE NEW VERSION (20kb): Smartpower RC2
  • Smartpower now saves the duration between sessions. So if you're always using a 30 minute timer, you won't have to set it to 30 every time you start the program, it will recall your last value.
  • The other change is that the .NET CF 2.0 is no longer bundled with the program, you need to download it below if you don't have it.

The following is only required if you don't already have it. Without it, this and many other applications won't run. You need to download the full installer from Microsoft and install it through ActiveSync.

.NET COMPACT FRAMEWORK 2.0 (Service Pack 2):

Full Installer (37.6MB): ActiveSync Installer for All Platforms

The thing is that both my music players either lacks a shutdown timer (TCPMP) or its shutdown timer can break the system with the dreaded X50v "white screen of death" (Pocket Player). So whenever I'm listening to music while falling asleep, I had no other option than letting the battery run out so that the unit turned itself off. This is because none of these players have a proper shutdown timer.

I don't think repeatedly draining the battery is good for it, so I wrote a simple program as a solution. The program is very easy to use, just run it, set the timer between 1 and 90 minutes, and tap "Start!", then switch to your music player and go to bed! :approve:

You can rest assured that your device will be shutdown in a good fashion (pun intended).

I am posting this to you so you can check it out, and perhaps it'll help you like it has helped me.

Does this act any differently to the sleep timer shutdown that Gsplayer uses?

Although 90 mins is more than enough time, perhaps the tine limit should be fully configurable for maximum flexibility.

Lodis: This program was made as a solution for all the players / situations where you need a shutdown timer. Such as TCPMP which doesn't have any, and Pocket Player which has a VERY crappy one (that crashes the device when you try to power it back on after a shutdown). If the one in GSPlayer works well for you, and you don't need a shutdown timer in any other situation than when playing music, then this isn't for you. ;)

About the timer maximum of 90 minutes, the reason that it's capped is that a smaller range is more convenient as a sleep timer. But if you need it, I can add a checkbox to enable long timer values.
