Does this software exist?

I just got my Axim last week and have been enjoying it. Theres some software I'd like that I dont know where to look. I am skeptical of buying something then realizing its not what I wanted.

Task Manager. The one in the Axim isnt very good. I have TONS of tasks. I'd like to be able to sort them into categories and also have folders. So I could have a folder list on the main window then expand the folder and see the 10+ tasks in that folder. I could assign the tasks to different categories and highlight a category to see all the open tasks in it. Any additional features like making a task a certain % complete as well as assigning priorities and costs to tasks would be a big +

Security/encryption program. I have some files on my Axim that I want to keep secure. I would like (ideally) to have something where when I click to open a file in Excel or another program, it will ask me for the password and decrypt it on the fly and let me open it. I know I can use passwords in Excel files but I mean other files too - text files, images, directories, etc. The encryption program would have to be running in the background waiting for an open/view of the file and then popup and get the password then decrypt it. It would be ideal if it could hide/encrypt whole directories as well as files. I keep some very sensitive data on my PDA and if I ever lost the PDA it would have to be very secure from strangers.

Thanks! My first post although I've been a lurker for a while.

First off...congratulations on your new Axim purchase.
Unfortunately, I can only help you with the first half of your questions.
For a task manager...Pocket Informant is good. I have different folders for my tasks and categories. It is very customizable. You can download the trial version and give it a try for a month for free...no strings.
I hope this helps.

Chalinga has gave you a great answer for the first half of your question. And I think I can answer the second part of your question. I'm using Spb Pocket Plus, and it works great. It is a program like a launcher which make your Today screen more pretty and user friendly; and best of all, the best part is you can encrypt your files with this program. (one more Plus is you can zip and unzip your file with this program too.) But I'm not sure how secure is it when it encrypt the files...128bits? 256bits? Anybody have some idea?

Hi and Welcome to THE site for all things Axim.... Another thought for the second half of your question concerning encryption might be getting the program Resco File Explorer (link below). It greatly improves on the functions of the file explorer that comes with windows mobile. It offers file encryption and zip functions as mentioned with SPB. It is also great for browsing an available network.

Got distracted and forgot the link Here it is http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp

Welcome to the site. A great task manager is Listpro. Pocket Informant has a task manager but is really a contacts program.

It's hard to disagree with anyone whose name ends in 'nator', but I have to respectfully do so on this subject. One of the great things about PI is how huge and powerful its features are. I use it very heavily for task management - in fact use it and virtually nothing else for this purpose. I also like its calendar and contacts elements, but task management is superb. In fact, I use the views in pretty much exactly the way corporate666 is talking about - have created a category for each regular client I visit frequently, and then separate study, or project categories, as well as a Hotlist one for things that are really pressing / urgent. So I'll start a day by reviewing hotlist items, then expand and collapse the view by category when at individual client sites etc.

With respect, I hardly think one should describe PI as (purely ?) "a contacts program" . Listpro is a great program for all sorts of lists (including lists of tasks) but PI IMHO is a much more powerful task manager.

Ok, oK! Point taken PI is a great task manager as well! But you know what? He asks for 2 things, a task manager and a security program. He didn't ask for a contact manager. So I recommended a task manager. I agree PI can do that and more, but I didn't think he was looking for the more.:approve:
