If Microsoft was doing their job, we would have a working browser. Why is PIE so lame?
It seems to me Microsoft's committment to moblie computing is a bunch of hype.
I certainly don't feel empowered by my device. Instead, I'm spending time and money beta testing my way through a bunch of third party products that are to do what PIE, WMP, PIM, and the OS should be doing.
:rolling:

BTW, I was wrong: Opera Mobile costs $24, not $30.
With tax it comes damn near close to $30 and I have other uses for $25-$30 than on a web browser.I guess its cuz im only 20 years old,but the truth is the only ppc software I bought was spb pocket plus and that is a hell of alot more useful than a browser that will only let u visit a couple more sites, only thing I cant do with pie that I used opera for was change my myspace top8 or spam unwanted yahoo mail.
When the first Opera Mobile beta was released, I wrote a very bad, smashing review of it because it was really buggy on WM2003(SE) devices. I've received a LOT of attacks from Opera fans because of that review. That is, I'm not really a sponsor for Opera or one that praises their product without being critical.
Just a note to say that I certainly never intended to give the impression that you were not critical.
You are an asset to the Pocket PC community and all the hours you have spent testing and reviewing these 3rd party browsers must have helped raise the profile of these products.
I think we have established that I am a prostitute - we are only now haggling over the price!
BTW, I've mentioned several times how good the JavaScript support in Opera Mobile is (standards compliance is THE killer point in Opera Mobile, in addition to pure speed). Yes, even gmail autocomplete works, as can be seen in here:
(Please note that you will need to enter one letter more and, then, delete the last letter with the Backspace key for this to work. Otherwise, it works flawlessly. Also note that you'll need to switch Opera to Desktop mode (Menu/Tools/Settings/Identify as Desktop computer))
Ok now I sound stupid, can someone direct me to the download? I only use my ppc, so I got lost on opera.com lol

Well, it's great, but (and I know you guy just don't care) the right-to-left language sites'render is horrible. The words appear right but the sentences are backwards

I tried Gmail and I had a problem trying to login. Every time I clicked in the password box, the keyboard would come up, but then Opera transfered an image or something and the keyboard went away and the cursor was no longer in the password field. Did you have that? Any ideas on what is going on?
I have X51v running WM5. I also have Calligrapher loaded though I was using the standard WM5 keyboard at the time.
Also, here is another strange thing. I use the site http://www.titantv.com to look at tv listings. It is setup so that if you click on a program another window opens up showing show information. I guess it is kind of a super popup - I don't know what it is really called. Anyway, that window opens up in another Opera tab. The image is too large to be displayed on one screen but no scroll bars turn on. With the D-pad you can scroll the image ok.

Dunno - I've managed to log in w/o problems. I, however, found out that Opera Mobile has rendering problems with the main screen (after logging in) of Gmail; there, you must use Desktop view (and, tehrefore, scroll around a bit) to see all headers correctly.

Try giving a try to the Desktop view (dunno if it helps though).
Can you give me some URL's of these pages? I've been testing Opera on WM2003SE (on a Pocket Loox 720) and WM2003 (on an iPAQ 2210) and, unlike with 8.5 b2 (where this problem was indeed a real pain in the back), have never run into this problem at all. It may be an x50v + WM2003SE-related problem.
by the time you get past the section on india the text overlaps itself... until it is all a black mess.

Yup, it seems x50v users are out of luck with Opera Mobile (as was the case with many Minimo builds - they also ran on other PDA models, just not on the x50's) - on my WM2003(SE) devices, this page too renders without problems:
A couple of things really bother me about this browser, and they haven't been fixed since beta.
1. word suggestions STILL don't pop up above the keyboard when you input text.
2. it still freezes regularly after it loads in a page. This is something that PIE does much better on short, simple pages. It's just way too slow.
To pay close to 30 bucks for a browser, it'll have to be much better than this. I don't really see any significant improvements over the beta version. I use a browser literally all day at work with a portable wifi connection, and I still don't see any perfect browser out there for the PPC.
