I'll just jump in and agree with everyone else here. As long as you keep a copy of the files you download and keep the registration key in a safe place, there is really no need for this "protection".
I have even taken this problem up with their customer service, and all they told me was "there was no way they would remove the protection", but they would offer me a one time discount for $4. I mean the protection is $4.99 when you buy something, and $7.99 after a month, so what hell would a $4 discount give me?
I told the cus service rep to tell his management that they were total idiots.
This protection was the fastest waty to loose my money.

Well done!!:approve:
I cetainly wil not use Handango until this "protection" is removed - except for trial versions for upgrades which are free in any case.
This is exactly why I buy from PocketGear instead of Handango. My purchase records are kept by them for FREE. If I lose EVERYTHING I purchase from them, I can download the programs AND get the reg numbers to reinstall it.
They get my money because they have given me GOOD service, fair prices and I have NO complaints. :approve:
Man, I was already to practice safe download before I read all of this. Now i am ready to spit in the wind and ride off unprotected like. Kinda wish I had somewhere to go. ah hell. Hey MAW BRING ME A BEER, oops typing instead of talking again.
It is a rip-off...I hate to admit it but I fell for it a while back. I now own eWallet and store my serials in there. I make a back it up and move it to my SD card.
Yesterday I received an e-mail from Handango with a "Survey" on the service they were offering. I told them, in no uncertain terms, that I would but nothing more from them until they removed this outrageous download protection charge.
I suggest that others who receive this "Survey" e-mail say the same thing. Then they might get the message.
Why on earth should you have to remember to check the "remove" box? An d if you do and want to re-download softwsre you have bought at a later date, then you will not be able to do so. Use PocketGear every time.
Regarding Handango's automatic addition of "Download Protection Service" to everyones shopping cart, I unfortunately did not notice it and am now trying to get the charge reversed. I did manage to find a cell phone number (817) 804-2304 and work phone number (469) 939-0511 for Handango's Vice President of Business Development, Eric Anderson. Just thought it might come in handy for others.
I bought something from Handango a few months ago and didn't notice until I read the receipt that they charged dl protection. I submitted a billing complaint using their online form. I kept cool and said it was my fault because I didn't read the order properly. They didn't reply after 3 weeks so I sent a reminder. The next day they gave me a full refund (for the dl protection). So if it happens to you I suggest you do this.
