OK. So, I have seen so many people recommend TCPMP as a substitute for WMP, that I decided to go check it out. I tried downloading it, but when I unzipped it, it came out as a bunch of files that my computer could not read. This happened with the zip file, the cab and the exe. Can someone please help me out with explicit instructios for getting this thing properly downloaded and installed? What am I missing?
Also, on TCPMP's web site, there is a link to accessories you can download. But there is no information about what these are. Does anyone know what these do and whether I should download them??
When I got TCPMP it, I simply downloaded the file entitled "tcpmp.setup.0.71.exe" ran it and then just followed the instructions. I got it from the page linked below.
With your PDA synchronised to your desktop with Activesync, go to Activesync\Explore\My Device\Temp. Then copy and paste the .cab file from your unzipped bunch to the Temp folder of your PDA. If there is more than one .cab file, choose the one for ARM processors.
Then open (double tap on) the .cab file in the Temp folder and TCPMP will then install itself into Main Memory of your PDA. You can then delete the .cab file in Temp.
If you don't want it there (it will take up quite a lot of main memory), then downlaod a freeware program calle cabinstall. This will enable you to install TCPMP either to a storage card or to BIS as you wish.
The accessories you refer to are probably plug-ins which may be required depending on the file format of the video you want TCPMP to play.
It would be of some help in answering this and any other questions you may have, if we knew which model Axim you have and which Operating System you use.
Sounds like you unzipped the cab file, which by default opens up in winzip.
The cab file goes directly to the axim. The axim uses the cab file to install the program,

Ah. Thanks, guys. Got cabinstaller. That is one cool little program. TCPMP seems to be installed and working now. Is there a way to get it to show the album are on the screen (or anything else)?? Mine just has a blank black screen right now.
The title of the track that you are playing should show in the grey line below the top bar.
The blank black screen is for viewing videos which is what TCPMP is really best for. You can tap the box in the bottom bar and view them full screen which is best.
There are no skins for TCPMP at present ,but I understand that it will soon be re-issued under its old name of BetaPlayer (it may no longer be freeware) and that skins may be available either with or for the new version.
Glad you like cabinstall. With some software it is easier and quicker to dowwnload just the .cab file rather than the whole .zip file.
If you use MP3's, you should be able to see album art if it is encoded with the music. I'm not sure of all the specifics for getting this to work, but it does work on several albums I have encoded. Mabe someone who knows the exact procedure will give use more info. I just stumbled on it and was amazed it worked. I like it for music, but it really has no equal as a video player. Enjoy!
I would love if album art worked with OGG files too (meaning w/ a folder.jpg file in the song folder) w/ TCPMP...otherwise in 7 days I will be forced to buy PocketPlayer.
