Sprite Backup - Best Practise

I have sprite backup installed on my x51v but I am not sure I am using it to its potential. All settings are default. So please tell me what are the best practise settings ?

thanks in advance

Backup nightly, keep seven backups, password and compress each backup.

Seven backups? I would think three would be sufficient for most needs.

I've been using the settings suggested by MrK. I'm not sure if you would need to alter any of them because you're using WM5, but they work great for me.

Yea, I keep 3. Actually 4 - I took one with all of my stuff installed and nothing else. Sort of a "clean" install.

The most important for me is:

- Exclude persistent storage and backup files
- Compressed
- Create self-restoring backup files

I don't schedule backups since I sync daily and do not install/save data onto my device regularly.

I periodically do backup BIS on my WM2K3.2 X50V, especially if I'm planning on being away from my PC for awhile. I also was fortunate enough to be able to do a full backup, including BIS, prior to my last exchange with Dell, which greatly reduced the time requirements to get up and running on the replacement X50V!

Otherwise, my Backup Strategy on the PPC has not varied all that much from the Palm PDA days. There's some more housekeeping items described in my View MyPDA.

I put mine wherever there is room... :D That really means, BIS (not in WM5), CF or SD. It's also a good idea to make a copy on your PC as well.

By default it's not set to make self-restoring backup files so make sure you setup this

Apart from that it's great. I keep ONE backup on my SD card and another on the PC

yes I better read the manual, or is there an idiots guide on this site?. I don't fully understand/ appreciate the backup methodology.

so regardless what happens I.e hard reset, lost cards etc. if I have a self restoring saved file I can get back to everything being ok at that time?

If you backup everything, yes. However, unless something has changed for the better, the self-restoring backups were only for pre-WM5 Sprite versions; you will need to keep a copy of Sprite itself to restore on WM5+ versions.

Do read the thread On Backups on my View MyPDA. Backups are simply a method of risk management. Insurance if you will. How much or little is a individual's choice based on their perception and comfort level.
