Splash ID - Everything is GONE!

I have been using the FREE version of SpashID for PPC and have had the application stored and run from my SD card. (The FREE version does not come with the PC desktop sync).

Prior to doing the A12 upgrade, I removed by SD card then reinserted it after the upgrade was complete. Then, when I went to run SplashID from the SD card, it brought me to the intro screen as if this was the first time I had ever used the program and all of the stuff I had in there was GONE. Since the program is on the SD card, all of my data should be there SOMEWHERE, shouldn't it? The only file I can see in the SplashID folder is the .exe file.

The only back up I have is from WM5 Backup program and since that was done on A06 before the upgrade, I cannot restore from it.

Any ideas??

Just because a program is installed on memory card doesn't mean all its files are stored there. There are often registry entries, etc. stored in internal memory as well. It sounds like you just have to reinstall the program again.

SplashID stores the database as a system database (where contacts etc are stored). So after a hard reset, you'll lose that database and everything you stored there since your main memory is wiped.

Now I understand that after a ROM upgrade, restoring from a backup is not a good idea. But you can always make backups of specific system databases. Keep it in mind the next time you are performing a hard reset or a ROM upgrade.

You may want to contact SplashData to fully understand your options. I believe that on the PPC platform, SplashID stores it's data in Blowfish-256 encrypted form in the \Windows directory. This of course would not persist after a ROM upgrade, being recreated.

I also use SplashData, but have not tried to restore after a hard reset. SplashData also has a Windows viewer, and Activesync conduit. Would the data be restored on the PDA just by resyncing all the PIM stuff from the PC ?? If it doesn't, I will have to seriously consider using another program
