RAW Viewer for PPC?
Does anyone know of a RAW viewer for PPC? (If you don't know what RAW is then you won't know if there's a RAW viewer )
My digital camera takes CF and after taking some photos I can then view any jpg's on my x50. However, my camera (Canon EOS 20D) also takes pictures in RAW format and the the standard photo viewer doesn't understand RAW.
Any suggestions on an app that could do this?

I can't answer on the PPC side for sure, but my guess is no. From the camera side, Canon uses a proprietary RAW format which is why the software that comes with the camera is necessary for editing it's own RAW images. It would be nice if someone had written a viewer but I'm sure Canon might have something to say about it.

Not going to happen (unless you consider Glass Lantern). Resco might, but I doubt it as it's tough to keep up with the proprietary RAW formats.
Your best bet is one of these options: - Set the 20D to take RAW + JPG (the 20D has several levels of JPG from which to choose and it can capture both at the same time)
- Set up a batch process (in PhotoShop, for example) to process the RAW and create JPGs
FWIW, I no longer capture JPG, only RAW, unless I have a very specific reason to create the JPG in-camera.

The 2nd option won't help him view the on his PPC afther he snapped the pictures,
The first one will though.

It will, you just have to factor in the temporal displacement requirements. ;)

Thanks for the link to glasslantern. :approve: It may just work after all. Reading the website's info, it appears the program can display a RAW file's internal thumbnail and even some of the photo data. It certainly should be enough to check composure, focus, eyes closed etc. to determine keepers and deleters.

Thanks all for your comments.
I also found that suggestion elsewhere for taking RAW + JPEG at the same time, and it does seem to be the way forward. The difference in space used doing both ain't much, especially on my 2G CF ;-) And it'll be a lot easier loading a small JPEG than an 8M RAW image!

You can also review RAW in-camera with the Canon 20D on the built-in LCD screen, of course.

Pocket Phojo can view RAW files. I have a Canon 20D also and it reads the .CR2 format :). It's expensive though.
Check your PM.

I've been taking RAW + JPG for a while now. Put the SD card on my Axim and edit the JPG's using Resco, crop and resize. Upload to my website while on vacation using Total Commander ftp and WiFi. Never could get Resco Explorer to do ftp on my Axim. The Axim is great!

Is Pocket Phojo really $389/$489 !? ($389 price is for freelancers).
How can a picture viewer be that expensive....there isn't much on their website describing all the features.
Yet their Photogenics Personal edition is only $29.99 while their regular Photogenics is $49.99.
Edit: Hmm, seems Pocket Phojo can transmit photos and is geared more towards photojournalists etc.

Yeh for holidays (vacations for u yanks :P) I shoot in RAW + JPG but the JPG i keep small so I can just email without having to worry about size and quality. I did my entire Europe trip like that and I'm yet to get through editing all my RAW's lol that was this time last year I went.

I have a Rebel XT, and it also shoots in .cr2, which is a big PITA when it comes to viewing pics on my axim. resco picture viewer doesn't do it, and I'm not about to waste space by shooting in jpg + raw, so for now I have no way of viewing pics :(
I've seen that pocket phojo before, and I'd also say it's just a *tad* on the expensive side ;)

I almost always shoot in only RAW (.CR2) myself. If you really want the JPGs it is not wasted space. Get a bigger CF card, shoot RAW+JPG, and do not worry about it.
