Overclocking Risks

What are the major risks for overclocking an Axim x50v, and how real are they? Is there a "safe" amount of overclocking, or a line you shouldn't cross? Thanks!

Just don't go too high. Going to 768 mhz with some cooling is usually okay. 1 GHZ is okay too, but theres no point, as it underclocks the FSB and memory.

Risks...........

Dead Axim
Literally fried Axim
Dell Support (uggg)
Hard reset.

Why would you bother? At the risk of killing it? At least w/ a PC, you can reboot and undo it, but w/ a PPC, you're F'd.

I think I got an electric shock through the back of my x51v when I ran it in 768MHz (through the plastic casing). Everything still works, though. (So it was probably not an electric shock, but it felt like one).
I won't do it again.

ABF, you do not have to report posts like this.....

Yes, there are plenty of risks in OCing your Axim, generally it is not the greatest idea as there is no easy way to tell how cool the processor is and you will most likely fry it as there is not much cooling at all for it.

Stick an ice pack on the back of it. Instant liquid cooling :D

Which application are you using that requires more than 728 mhz?

Size constraints. Even a 5mm heatsink has to have space for the heat to radiate into. Add a small 5mm fan and already we're looking at at least an additional 15mm-20mm of thickness. It'd be like using my Casio again!! :)

WHAT??! ABF reported my post? Why?

P.S. I run at 1 GHZ.........

P.S.S. I do what darkdestroyer does, ice pack

P.S.S.S. ( No idea if there is a such thing) Dell doesn't even put temperature sensors on their desktops!?!?!

My Dimension 2400 has one sensor, the one that I added.

P.S.S.S.S ( I know its getting ridiculous) @ darkdestroyer I'm testing my own programs, that require a lot on the interger section, and also for Warfare Incorporated :)

wheather you like it or not, all ps's have sensers. i my inspiron has more sensers then you can poke a stick at. ith as for gpu, gpu mem, dimm, cpu, chipset, fan speed sensers and a bunch more. and no you are wrong. your deminshion has at leat 2 sencers. the cpu and the fan senser. if you cant read those with speedfan then that system has problems.
the reason i reported your post was that there is always somer idoit out there who says "well ya know, i bet i can make my axim go 2ghz..." then when he screws his axim spams the forums with his compalnts.

And how is my post bad? I'm simply saying that its okay to go to 1 GHZ, its not gonna kill it, or at least not in my testing :).

And second of all, my Dimension DOES NOT have any sensors, aside from the one I installed, would you like a screenshot?

And third of all, my mom's Latitude 610s have sensors galore as well, CPU, GPU, Memory, hard disk, you name it.

And fourth of all, I found a better speed. My processor is now running at 300 MHZ, but heres the thing. The memory is 300 MHZ, and FSB is like 200 MHZ.

One comment.

UNBELIVEABLLY FAST!!!!!!!! Menus load instantly, the Programs list no longer takes like 10 seconds to load icons, its instantaneous........ no overheating either. I LOVE IT!

Edit> One more thing, ABF, you can't get it up to 2 GHZ. Try going higher than 1 GHZ, and nothing will happen. When you test it, it will lock up, and you simply soft reset. No harm done.
