Uninstall the new version, dig my old copy of Memmaid, install, put in my registration code, install the newer version, and TADA!!!
|
That isn't good. What if you no longer have an older copy? Then the new one won't be registered!

Well, until we hear from DinarSoft, it seems like it.
Not sure if my case was just some weird glitch...
Hopefully, someone could verify...

This should not happen. The new version 1.72 does not require an older version to be installed. Your current unlock key should work, if not please let us know to fix it for you.

Like my previous post - I tried to put in my reg. code, and the program would just go back to "trial period" (no error message)...
Probably just a weird glitch on my device...

Also, when you have any previous version installed and registered already, 1.72 will pickup the key and register itself.

1st try, maybe...2nd try....hmm, highly unlikely, but possible.....3rd try....I really doubt it...4th try....@$%!@#$!@#$
I was running the beta previously as I have hard-reset my device just recently, and I figured the final version will come out soon anyway (as it did).
And yes, when you have you're previous version installed, it does pick up the registration (like what I did, to make it work)....
Anyway, mine works now

I updated to 1.72. Nice update. Device info works for me, I'm using x51v/A06. The feature I was most looking forward to, RAM Reclaim, didn't release any RAM for me. I was only running Memaid and had VBAR running as well. I thought this would be similar to SKTOOL's FreeUp RAM, when I ran FreeUp RAM, it freed up an additional 1,678 of RAM whereas RAM Reclaim didn't do anything.

ReclaimRAM is working by asking all running programs to free their unused RAM, with optional to close programs.
Hint!!: If you use any software to free RAM (as a comparison) you better monitor the decvice's free memory before and after (using something like the memory system applet) to make sure that you really got what the program claims.

I get device info with no problems. I don't seem to be able to reclaim memory, however.

ReclaimRAM does not have to get memory back all the time, it really depends on how memory is used by the current running programs.
You may not get back any memory if:
- you just did a soft-reset
- you have programs that do not cache data in memory but only allocate when in need then free it right away.
- the running programs do not respond to the system when it is asking them for memory.
MemMaid does not put the system under more than necessary stress as your today plugins may freeze. The idea behind ReclaimRAM is to free some memory that is allocated by other programs but those programs are willing to give it up. Or, you can just close all the running programs, which in this case MemMaid will only ask the system programs for memory.

Will future versions of MemMaid's ReclaimRAM be able to release RAM from closed programs? What I mean is that some programs have memory leaks that do not fully release RAM when they are closed and I was hoping to find a program that would truly reclaim this RAM.

When a program is closed, all the memory allocated/assigned to this program is free by the OS. Windows/Windows Mobile has never left those leaks with freeing them. It is by the definition of the process object on the Windows Platform.
if you have a program that allocate several MB of memory but does not free it on exit, the OS will free it automatically.
What's left behind a program that is already closed is the presistent data on you file storage or external cards, and this is already taken care of by MemMaid's cleaners.
Unless the operating system has problems (bugs) in this area :)
BTW: Did you have time to check if other program really free the memory they claim they did. (this is a simple test, run the system memory applet, run the program that frees the ram, check the memory through the applet again and repeat).
Please let us know
As for the coming versions, we keep re-searching for new ways to free you resources and memory, as soon as we find something new that can help in this regard we add it to MemMaid.
