I was thinking that it would be nice to have the local white and yellow pages. Anyone know a way to do that? I'm often not in a hotspot and want some info.
There are many sites and programs designed to do this while connected. Like this program. I dont know if there are any that will store info for offline viewing.

There used to be a program for the PC, which was a bunch of CDs with everyone in the US or the world or something. I can't believe that the yellowbook companies don't sell a software version of a particular book.
Pocket Phonebook is an older app that is a phone book on the pocket pc. The site is here. Not updated since wince 3.0, so it may not work on newer oses. It also cant be downloaded, b/c it had so many problems and is so outdated, support has ended. It looks like ti would have been a good project in future versions.

This older program I have has the source code avaliabe for download if your interested.
Thanks but it's C++ and I'd probably use VB.Net if I was going to do this, which means it would really only work for WM5, maybe 2003. The tougher part, I would think, is getting the database. Verizon, or whomever, is going to charge for that and someone is going to have to pay license fees. Once the data is into a little SQL database, the actual listbox and search box stuff is trivial using .Net.
I've been looking for exactly the same thing and came across this: http://www.sbcyponline.com/ftp.htm
You can download html/javascript versions of phonebooks. However, neither Internet Explorer Mobile or Opera can use them. Perhaps the data could be extracted and made useable. I'd be happy with any sort of searchable lists. Just be prepared to wait. The phonebooks are thousands of files. I think the listings themselves can be gotten from the \data\phonenum\ files (at least in the San Diego phonebook).
