Careful with this update. It changes the way the d-pad navigation works. I'm having trouble getting it to automatically mark items as read on my axim. It will do it most of the time if the mark item as read delay is set to 0 but if I change it to 2 it doesn't work.

I'm going back to 2.42, I liked the way it worked and it is very stable.

Does this version give you the entire story or just a snippet like the old one?

All you need to do is setup your favorite rss feed to cache. I do it all the time - works great when I am away from internet and I am reviewing the news.

I have noticed that this new version does not seem to be collecting/displaying pictures included in feeds whereas the previous version did. I didn't notice at first as the threads mostly displayed but that was from the earlier version, now it's 3.02 they are not coming through.

I have not changed any settings since installing 3.02 and cannot see any options to change to let the pictures through or display them if they are downloaded but just not viewable.

I have emailed Egress via their contact us link but thought it worth mentioning in case anyone else has noticed this.

I like the new versions way of displaying things and eveything else seems to be working well with Egress.

Am I missing something in the newest release of Egress? In the earlier versions, you could specify the directory to download enclosures (podcasts) and you can specify the directory for the cache. This new version seems to download the enclosures into the cache directory and there's no way to change it.

My feeling of the upgrade is mixed. It has some additional features. But one thing that bothers me is that when a RSS feed displays a list of items, tapping the item with my stylus does not open the item. Instead, it only expands the item from a single-spaced format to a double-spaced format (some, but not most, items have text that cannot be displayed on one line). To "open" the item, I have to either press the hard Select button (the center button of the 5-way), or to tap-and-hold to display a context menu. There are more steps to operate in comparison with a previous version. It seems, this upgrade assumes users to use the 5-way more often and the stylus less. But this assumption cannot be applied consistently anyway, as some actions clearly still require using the stylus and perhaps ONLY the stylus (e.g., downloading a MP3 enclosure).

Also, in previous versions, I can display and select the feeds within a folder from a "pop-up side menu" and, if I change my mind--without closing any window with an additional tap or key press--I can tap on another folder to display and select its feeds. Now, the contents of a folder are displayed in full screen instead of the pop-up side menu, and I have to exit this screen before I can look into another folder. It takes more steps now.

I can name other places where I consider a regression in usability.... But the great thing about Egress is that the author provides us free lifetime upgrade; we can choose the version we like.

One great feature in the future is to provide a list of audio podcasts which has already been downloaded (those that are downloaded automatically and manually, and sorted by default in reverse chronological order) so that users don't have to go back to each individual feed to listen to their favorite podcasts.

One of the aximsite members asks whether Egress will display the entire stories or just the snippets. This is not decided by the RSS reader but by the websites that provide the RSS feeds. But if you like technology, those feeds from Gizmodo, Engadget, Pocketnow, Pocket PC thoughts... are very good in providing full or almost full stories with pictures. You just have to identify those websites which are more generous in providing full contents without requiring you to launch the browser to their websites. Egress is one of my everyday indispensable applications.

I downloaded Egress and tried it out. I figured why not? I already own two RSS readers for Palm and two other RSS reader for PPC.

Egress seemed a bit slower updating than the one I am using and I could not quite get the hang of where or how to tap to open. I do not like double-tap.

Bottom line: All five RSS readers work. Of the three PPC RSS readers, I would place Egress as number two in my preferences. YMMV. Pick the one you like!

My problem with Egress? You have to manually go through the Channels to delete downloaded images to free up RAM/ROM. Unless I'm missing somthing?

I'm done with Egress. The only reason I put up with it, is because I paid for it. The developer never returns emails and doesn't even have a support forum on his site and you have to wait a half a year for any updates and when he does update it, its worse than before. I'm going to look into hubdog or something else.

Install Egrees on a card. I also have all my IE Cach going to a card via Memmaid tools. Works well for me.

Hope this helps.
