4Talk - Mini walkie talkie network

This has got to be one of the neatest programs for the PPC I've seen in a while.

http://www.4pockets.com/product_info.php?p=62

Just make sure to use a channel other than the default of 0. I used channel 2, set up some sound settings and it worked on the first try.

So neat.

Whats it do?

[EDIT] Just as the name says. Make a PAN walkie talkie network. Could be useful. Hows the range?

What would be sweet is if it could communicate to REGULAR walkie talkies. This one looks proprietary and requires everyone have the software. My problem is I don't know anyone that's a nerd like me. No one i know has a ppc to use this with.

What if you used that "Virtual LAN" software posted the other day. Get everyone on Aximsite to join a Virtual Lan, then we could all talk through this software. Then everyone would only need an internet connection. Hmmm.... free communications a brew.

Anyone wanna test this?

First you need a wireless router that you connect to with your Axim.

Download and install the 4Talk program from the link I provided.

Connect your Axim to your WiFi.

Run the 4Talk client on both your PC and Axim. Change the channel to something other than Channel 0. Press the big ass Push To Talk button and just start talking. You'll hear yourself out of your PC speakers.

Have you even tried this yet? Its pretty darn easy man.

That's my broblem, I guess... I have connected Axim using Actve Sync and nothing happened. Maybe if I would connect it to the other network...

Anyway, thanks for explanation.

This program works using broadcast packets, so you would need to ensure the network you are connected to supports these. This restricts it's use to local area networks, unless Virtual LAN has mysetical properties (of which I know not!). The use of broadcase packets does mean the program is not tied down to a particular IP address, so needs little or no configuration and is server-less!

ActiveSync blocks UDP so it won't work sat in the SYNC cradle!!
