Total Commander

Hi. I have Total Commander on my WM5 Axim X51V. I'm trying to set up a LAN connection to shared folders on my XP machines. One connects just fine. The other one gives me a message (on the Axim), "Error 53 while connecting". The shared folder on this XP machine is visible to the LAN, and I can connect to it from the other XP machine, just not from Total Commander. Once I connect, I'd like to be able to play music on the XP machine through the Axim. When I open the folder on the XP machine that I can connect to, and pick a wma file to play, I get an error in Windows Media that says "The parameter is incorrect."

My first question is, how can I connect to the XP machine with all of my music on it? The second question is, once I connect, how do I play the music? Thanks!

John.

In Total Commander. tap on the \\ > FTP LAN Registry

Pick LAN, you will then have to manually type in the server name
\\server.

Open that, it may take a moment, but it should bring up the username dialog. Type in the user name for the network computer and your passwork. You should then see the shared hard drives and /or folders available to you.

I have music by just going to the folder and opening the file with the appropriate software.

There are a few caveats. Your axim should be named properly. Neither the default axim name or the default WM_ name works because of the underscore.

Also if you have activwsyn open, it may not work. I believe there is a fix for being able to sync and have access to wireless at the same time. I do not know if the fix works if you are syncing via bluetooth. Hope this helps

I have an X50 with WM2003SE.
I use TCPMP to play music that resides on my desktop.
I can explore files on my desktop with Total Commander. Somtimes I get the Error 53, but usually, if I give it a little more time, it will connect.

Good luck.

Turns out I'm a retard. I had the Axim in the cradle, connected to the machine I could connect to. Pulled it out, TURNED WIFI ON, and suddenly I can connect. It might be time to investigate a media player other than Windows Media. Thanks.

John.
For media player, check out mortplayer for MP3 - great skins for using your fingers to get around.

Check out TCMP (CORE) betaplayer (it goes by several names) for both music and video. Both of these are freeware that can beat the pants off of WMP.
