Yep, we know about Agile Messenger. It's a great app!
Edit: Okay, maybe not everybody. It's always good to remind people about great little programs like this!

Has it come out of beta yet? Last time I checked it out there was an Alpha build for WM5.

I think its always going to be in beta...
Its still a great app, and its free!
The site is a little confusing, but the ongoing beta is always going to be free.

Agile is nice, but why don't they want to do IRC? That's like, the oldest, most-used standard. Should be "easy" to implement.

Why doesnt sombody use gaim's open source code to make a messenger for the ppc that is better than agile with more features, or is agile already using this source code.

Actually, the BEST (with no competition) of all is Shapeservices IM+ for PocketPCs (and smartphones and even some phones!). It's the best, it supports following protocols:
ICQ
MSN
YIM
AIM
Google Talk
Jabber
It saves history, it has notify settings....
Only thing that is really annoying is it's price, but otherwise it's the best.

If I only use MSN Messenger, would it be worth switching to this over the pre-installed Pocket MSN?

I don't believe so. I just use MSN and haven't found anything better. Agile's GUI is brutal.

Question: My x51v is arriving soon. Does Pocket msn support handwriting feature?
EDIT: it's x51v, not x50.

WM5 (and earlier versions of CE or Windows Mobile) suport various handwriting schemes, including:
Block Recognizer (similar to Palm's graffiti)
Letter Recognizer (more precise, versatile version of Block Recognizer)
Transcriber (freehand, you write anywhere onscreen)
And also various third-party keyboard SIP applications, like TenGo, RipBoard, etc etc.

I think PocketBrain got confused as to what you were asking. However, as far as I can see, I don't think this is possible (at least with Pocket MSN; it may be different for other applications).

Agile is nice so far, but what happens when it comes out of beta? Is the current beta timebombed to quit working once it goes gold?
So far I know about Agile and IM+ -- are there any other alternatives I should consider?
