First of all, your not the only one that likes the concept behind Journal Bar. Unfourantly the latest version is having issues. Check out this link to the offical Omega One forum for Journal bar for the latest information on the issue http://www.technologyatplay.com/main...iew.asp?fid=22
The past version and the latest version has this lock-up issue. I can't get either one to work well. I don't have the time right now to mess with it. Besides, I paid $ for a working program.
Personally, I sitting this one out until they get a working version. In place of JB I am using Egrees which works well, but requires some setup.
Thanks. Yeah, I had seen Journal Bar included in some MyPDAs and some favorite software lists, and I had read some of the forums but had thought, mistakenly, that the problems were mostly with ipaqs. Oops.
Can Egress get full articles? Its just my personal preference, but I don't find short headlines and brief rss feeds very satisfying.
yes, you can cache rss feeds (or channels) and read the full article at a later time, off-line. I use this all the time.
As a mater of fact, I am updating all of my RSS channels right now.
I Cache Pocket PC Magazine, SBSH forums, Star tribune (local paper), weather channel (local and national), wired news and Yahoo News for 'off site' reading.
I have 38 channels total, but I only cach my favorite ones.
I had not had any problems with Journal Bar until today. No update to weather at all (just a "?" on the weather icon), and no daily weather data downloaded. I was playing around with an RSS feed yesterday - maybe that messed something up. May have to look at Egress now.

BTW - I am still confidant that Omega one will get all the bugs out of JB. I just don't have the personal time to mess with it until they have a bug free version.
I have been using JB for about 3 years now, first on my X5, then on my X50v. I have rarely had problems with it, and whenever I did, Omega One was quick to work on getting rid of the bugs. That's why I was surprised by the lack of weather update this morning; I'm still not convinced it wasn't something I did!

Mine's working perfectly again, today, like it normally does. Yours, too, BirdBrain?
Truth be told, yesterday's glitch was the first real problem I've ever had with JournalBar. I'm guessing they had a little network problem--aw, heck, I have no idea, but the issue seems to have been temporary--not an inherent flaw in the software, and nothing different from what I've experienced with other computers and connections. One day down out of a couple of months; that's better odds than most of the computer connections I've had.
Yup, I pannicked [note to mods: you can move this to the "apologies" or "weak-minded admissions" threads]. My expectations for JB are high--its just great to get full articles from the Washington Post and BBC, not to mention forcasts for multiple cities, when I'm off line.
Apologies to Omega One. They have been responsive to my concerns in the past, and JB is one of my favorite programs.
its working quite well (just one day with loading problems) on an x51v that I got two months ago. its JB version 3.5.4-42
Can you give me any installation hints?
I have to install an older 'full version' and then upgrade to the latest version. Back when I started using JB they didn't have registrey codes. Instead they gave you the full version, and each upgrade would recoginize the prior version.
Everytime [I have tried on 4 diffrent occasions] I upgrade to the latest version, my X50V locks up and only a hard reset solves the issue.
Egress is great, use it everyday. The new version's (3.01 updated Aug 4th) UI is much more intuitive and it's blaziing fast. Egress is also updated quite regularly.
