Hotmail HTTPMail Security?

Pleasant day!

I've been using Httpmail for a bit and it works just fine.

I of course did some searching here but couldn't find an answer to what I'm wondering.

Knowing what's out there in this world, I'm always cautious of security and such.

I'm wondering if your password for your hotmail account that you inputed into Httpmail on your PPC gets sent to the Httpmail company's server - or is it encrypted the moment it leaves your PPC out to the net? Or is there no Httpmail company server?! What exactly is Httpmail's role in this process?!

In general, does anyone know how Httpmail is working in conjuction with Hotmail?

Are they a "middleman" type server in between your PPC and Hotmail?

Would that mean then that they have a copy of every email you access?

What if you have sensitive info in your emails (like bank info, forgotten passwords emailed to you, etc.)? They would have it too. I'm sure they wouldn't check every single email - but what if it was just "that one"?

Of course, I may be a bit overly cautious, but hey, nowadays with identity theft and whatnot - you can never be too cautious.

So any input would be much appreciated.

For the ease, I would love to continue to use Httpmail, but not if there are security issues.

One last question, when you can "see" your Hotmail folders on your PPC, if you move messages from one folder to another within hotmail and/or delete messages, do they follow suit on your PPC? Or is your save folder on the PPC keeping literally every single email rcvd/downloaded despite moving them.
Sorry to sound confusing - basically how do messages get stored on your PPC.

I'd like to keep everything on the hotmail server - use that as storage space - and not crowd up my PPC (ok, maybe with just the current msgs in the folders).
Or just like when you view the emails at hotmail.com - you can see them fully and yet you're not downloading them to your PC. And I like also how Outlook Express works, in that the space used on your PC keeps up with the messages on the hotmail server. I think you get what I mean. ;)

Thanks a bunch!

Pleasant day! :)

Just 2 quick things to add:
I noticed when I deleted messages in the Hotmail "Inbox" or "Sent Messages" folder on the PPC, they do not get deleted from the same folders when I login in at hotmail.com. I even made sure I closed ppc Inbox, send/rcvd again and closed out.
Hmmm.

And, at hotmail.com I have created two other folders. I can see these on the PPC with Inbox but there are zero messages in there.
OE on the PC allows me to access those hotmail folders and see the msgs just fine.
Hmmm.

Any input?

Thanks a bunch.

I don't know anything about httpmail, but I would assume that the passwords are sent in plain text. It's the safest assumption. Even if they're not - it's likely that the httpmail people have the ability to see your hotmail password. Again, I don't know for sure, but you should make that assumption.

Email is typically sent in plain text. If you bank emails you a password it's sent over the Internet in plain text unless they're using S/MIME or other encryption and verification tools. If you don't know what these are you're not using them so it would be plain text.

You should not be using email to store sensitive data like banking passwords etc. - regardless of whether the specific login request to httpmail is encrypted or not and regardless of whether they have the ability to view your hotmail password.

The fact that emails are unencrypted is good enough reason to make it a bad, bad, bad choice for very sensitive data.
