Is AvantGo a good thing ????

I loaded AvantGo when I first got my x51v last Dec. but didn't use it much and so I didn't reinstall it after one of my hard resets.
I noticed last night that one of the newspapers I like to read only has its PDA format available as a AvantGo channel so I thought I would give it another try. It all loaded OK and I subscribed to my channel (via the PC) but I can't open it on my Ax. The little wheel spins like it is loading and then it just stops and disappears like it has been shut down.
My Axim is on A012 and very stable. Everything else works well.
Any ideas appreciated.

Good luck on this one I gave up on AvantGo a while back for the same reason. Couldn't figure out what was wrong so, bye! bye!

Yeah, you're probably better off with an RSS aggregator instead like Newsbreak or my favorite Egress(link in my pda).

Avantgo works very well on my x51v A12 - use it almost every day and I love syncing wirelessly. Have you tried the usual... soft reset, uninstall and reinstall the latest version (which is VGA aware), etc? The RSS readers I've tried don't have images and/or enough info.

Well with Egress you can have it download and save multiple pages into the feed, for reading later offline.

I've found that AvantGo doesn't like to be installed on SD or CF flash cards. It works fine if loaded in RAM memory.

how does Hubdog compares with Avantgo? I am using Hubdog and so far it is okay. It can even download tpod casts. Only problem is the news source is too brief. Is Avantgo's news much more detailed?

Good one. Might solve my problem as I loaded it on the CF card (plenty of space). I will try reloading it into RAM. Many thanks.

Hi, I tried few rss readers on my axim x51. But the news articles are very brief, in somecases just the news header, no body. I know it is nothing to do with the rss feed reader but is there any other aleternative to AvantGo where we can get the complete news article.

Journal Bar does what you want--it collects articles and stores them for off-line reading. It is great.

My AvantGo is on SD Card and works perfectly. I agree that you might reinstall the latest version. Good luck!

When you can get it to install - before purchasing, check out omega one's support forum. There are issues with JB

I haven't been able to get it to run decently for a while now...

Personally I gave up advantgo a long time ago. Get Egress - it works better :approve:

I think AvantGo recommends to install it in main memory.

Ditto here! I use pRSSreader and it works great (its freeware too!).
