I need a utility that runs automatically (no login) on the PC 'in the other end' and a companion for my x3i.

Any suggestions ?

o i see what you want to do, like palmorb with lcd smartie right? unforuntaly palm orb is omnly for palms and i dont even know if there is a plugin for lcdwsmartie that will allow you to disply bud lists..

lcdsmartie is a driver program for plam orb. to better explane i will tell how they are used... i have an old palm piolt. to make use of it i have palm orb oinstalled on it. palm orb emulates a matrix orbital display. lcdsmatrie is the out put or drive program. it sends the signals to the plam to tell it what to display. with lcdsmartie- palm orb you can view system stats such as, temp ,hdd space, cpu0 usage (no dual core support although it will run bad for people liek me with a duula core setup) used meory and other things liek that. additionaly it can be ued to display info such as baskitball game stats, football scores and things of that nature. as to a buddy list, i dunnu. nboth programs are free.

which is why i said "unfourtantly palm orb doesnt have a ppc version..

Is there not Palm Emulation on the PPC. It seems like alot of work, but if you really need it emulate the programs ABF was saying.
