True, but the one thing that Hack Master does is let you slow down to 100 mHz. That will really extend the battery life if you combine it with a less bright screen. One use might be to use for MSReader, which is low CPU usage. It would extend the battery life while you read.

So have you guys been getting pretty good lunch with overclocking the Axim to 300mhz+?
I'm thinking about doing it just to get a boost in speed & framerates. No heat problems or anything?
Optimus, still waiting on your answer man...

I'm still searching for the article; it was on another forum just can't remember which one (Brighthand, PPCPassion, Ipaq).
The article was written by a Intel rep. and not by anyone at Dell. Give me some more time .
The article also contained info on SDIO and the Xscale.

Jus to let everyone know, I have tried this product, I have alot of money so I wasnt worried about messing my pocket pc up because i have alot of them. I have the 400 mhz Axim, it is possible to oveclock it to run at 966mhz and you can also overclock the ram speed of the unit. my Axim ran fine throughout the week that i tested it at that speed, i had no overheating problems, no programs ever froze and the battery life was just a little shorter. keep this in mind when u want to overclock your axim to like a 600mhz speed becasue it will run fine, thanks

also, i just ordered the axim keyboard from dell and ill let everyone know how well it works.

Ok thanks Optimus,
isn't anyone else excited about the fact that we all could have potential 400's for the 300 owners?
Or are you all weary about things that sound too good to be true, not to mention voiding the warranty?

I got my Axim 300 a few days ago and bought PocketHackMaster as soon as I charged the sucker up..
I found I could overclock it to 400mhz and it runs fine... 500 would not work (darn, it does work on the 400s though)
I tried all weekend to see what difference it made, and it didn't seem like any, and then I finally figured out what was wrong...
You have to go to the power menu, (under settings) and set processor speed to normal and not auto.
The program (PHM) will do all the scaling for you if you let it.
I've benchmarked my axim and these are my results.
At 300mhz
Integer FloatingPoint
20.12 9.49
At 400mhz
Integer FloatingPoint
26.95 12.67
which is about 30% performance increase for my $9.95
I like the power scaling and the many hacking options it provides, but to each their own.
I've noticed no significant battery life changes from overclocking. It does not heat up (core voltage is not changed) And 400mhz is within the specs of the processor line
Also I noticed that Pocket Hack Master reports my processor as a 200mhz processor. Perhaps there is some merit that there are only 400mhz and 200mhz... 200mhz processors with turbo on run at 300 mhz.
In anycase you will not beable to change bus speeds with the axim. (they all seem to crash if you try to set it over 99.5) So the only allowed speeds for the axim are 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500.
Other speeds such as 600 do not work because the core voltage is too low.
I hope this helps.

Hahahahahaha, got a good laugh out of your post Matt.
Should I preface all my posts with "I have no money so I do worry about messing up my pocket pc because I only have one of them"?
Amused

Interesting thread...
here's the scoop I got after I installed clearspeed on my
Ipaq 1910, from 200 tp 300, with a noticable improvement...
Essentially, it's all liscensing costs...
Intel will sell you a "200" chip cheaper than a 300 or 400.
In HP's case, they agreed not to include the control panel that allows you to change the speed, per the liscensing agreement.
Perhaps Dell's 300 and 400 Mhz CPU options have something to do with this...
I've got a feeling *all* of the Xscale would run at 400, but your manufacturer can't give you the tools to do it, per the liscensing agreement when they make big production runs..
Maybe not, just a thought...
