I ran across this program Pocket Hack Master while surfing through Handango's web site. It is suppose to be able to overclock the new Xscale processor. Since I have a 300 mhz Dell and have seen posts about the possibility of overclocking it safely to a 400 mhz, I was wondering if anyone has used this program. Will it work? Will it harm my Dell? Thanks for any and all advice.

The one guy who I have seen post that he tried to change the clock speed indicated he could UNDERClock it to 100 and it ran fine, but overclocked to 400 hung up completely and required a hard reset.
That's not surprising. The only difference between 300 and 400 CPUs is that the 400's passed the test at 400 mHz and the 300's didn't. The manufacturing process is the same, and simultaneous, and then all the resulting chips are tested for speed and classified or discarded. So, to try overclocking to 400 MIGHT work, but probably would not run for long or well.
Of course, ymmv.

I'm trying to figure out why in god's name you'd want to overclock any PDA. Overclocking your desktop computer I can understand; buy a slower CPU and overclock it, get better performance cheaper. But what possible benefit would you get from overclocking your PDA? So you can play Tetris better? So your Calendar comes up in 2 seconds instead of 3? :P

Jus to let everyone know, I have tried this product, I have alot of money so I wasnt worried about messing my pocket pc up because i have alot of them. I have the 400 mhz Axim, it is possible to oveclock it to run at 966mhz and you can also overclock the ram speed of the unit. my Axim ran fine throughout the week that i tested it at that speed, i had no overheating problems, no programs ever froze and the battery life was just a little shorter. keep this in mind when u want to overclock your axim to like a 600mhz speed becasue it will run fine, thanks

also, i just ordered the axim keyboard from dell and ill let everyone know how well it works.

I have the 400 version and when I tested it out at 457, or whatever it is, I didn't notice a major difference in, well, anything...
As for underclocking, well I've heard some programs run BETTER at a lower speed on the XScale... Who knew!

To save yourself some battery life.
As for the original issue on overclocking; I have a 300mhz and oc'd it to 400mhz the only improvement I noticed was that videos (WMA) dropped less frames and were less jagged.
As for Intel chip itself. It only comes in 2 variants 200MHZ and 400MHZ. There is no such thing as a 300 MHZ and failed 400MHZ are not rebranded 300MHZ.
Everyone with a 300MHZ axim. Has the same device as the 400mhz buyers sans 32megs of ram and 16 megs of rom.

I overclock my processor (AMD 2000XP+).
I overclock my videocard (Nvidia TI4400).
I do this mostly because:
A) I can :P
B) gaming performance
I feel no need to O/C my Axim! You guys are nuts! ;)

Optimus: Can you site a source for Intel having really only 200 and 400 XScale chip variations because I certainly can't find anything. The only thing I've found is the Intel website saying the XScale is available in 200, 300 and 400 MHz.

Don't believe this troll. The product does not work on Axim 400's and nobody has gotten it to work at all much above 500 MHz. There is a 50+page thread at Brighthand.com about the product. It works on Asus, Ipaq and some Toshibas, and for the Axim 300 it can get up to 400 for some machines. The 400 Ax will not work, period.

Don't disagree about the "device" part, but take it from someone who knows. If it would run at 400 reliably, it would be a 400. It's the same device, but given the tolerances in manufacture, it's easier to make, test and classify than to try to create a consistent 400 or 300 batch. You could get lucky and get one that runs well at 400, but it would be just that, lucky. On the other hand, maybe Dell took the route of paying for 400's and selling them as 300's but I doubt it. If Dell had put 400's in they would call them 400's and make a few extra bucks.

Yes OPTIMUS,
I would like to know where you get that information from. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to interrogate you or anything, it's just that if what you say is true then that's very good news to those people that are trying to or thinking about overclocking.

I just OC'ed my axim 3 to 4 easily no lock ups. It improves frame rates noticebly and i think it was worth the ten bucks. Now when i don't that much speed i can turn the axim's speeds down and use less battery

You don't need to add a program to slow down the AXIM. If you go to Settings/Power/Processor you can change the setting from "Auto" to "PowerSave" and the 400 Mhz AXIM slows down to 200 Mhz.
Myself I just leave it in Auto and let it handle the speed needed.
There are so many cool features, programs, and adjustments already in the AXIM that you don't really need to add very many utilites or other programs to get full use of the PDA.
