Well, considering that there may well be no new Axims, that may not be much of an issue
Well, I still have the option to buy a x51 :p

Today I'm glad that I did regular folder-to-folder back-up of my files to the SD-card and made a card BU to my PC - every week.

But I would like to know a more easy way to do the back-up more easely - next time.

I suspect that there will be PDAs for the foreseeable future ;).

There is a link on my site to a post about backups.

That is not correct. If you have the backup, all you need to do is to place it on your new unit and extract the individual files and so forth to restore to your new unit. It is not that big of a deal. You cannot restore the system of course but SKTools does extract individual files from a backup. It also extracts the databases. I can see that there would be a problem if you did not intend to get another Win Mobile device. Other wise, all is well.

... and maybe you'll need your (crypto) data in the meantime -
Think about it before you deside on a (new) BU system !

That's my conclusion by now.

I see your annoyance. Perhaps the reason I am not too concerned about this is that for me the back up is less about my data than it is about the PPC system. I save all my files to my storage card. Those files are backed up to the PC in their own files using MightySync. My PC is Backed up daily. My database information is backed up into Outlook, Quicken, Access, and PhatNotes Pro. I always have access to my data in both places this way and there is always a back up of it.

OK. So, I have a question for you back up gurus out there. I am thiking it is time to reformat my SD card. I typically backup using SK Tools 3.0. So, how do I backup everything on my SD card?? Can I do that with SK Tools or do I need Sprite for that?? My thinking is that I can backup the card, reformat it and wipe it clean and then restore the the files from the back up to the card and everything will be just as it was. Is that correct??

Doug

Aside from there not being much benefit to reformating a CF/SD card, there are two simple ways:
  1. USB card reader and copy to your PC, then back afterwards
  2. Use the Explore option under ActiveSync instead

I have copied cards many times to go from one card to another and also for my weekly backups of the cards themselves.
