Question There must be a way to watch videos with AAC audio, right?

Is there another media player out there (other than TCPMP 0.72RC1) that will let me watch videos that use AAC audio?

Surely there's something else of equal quality to TCPMP?

Not that I know of. Soooo No. Why do you want another media player anyway TCPMP is the best out there albeit the ugliest, but the best.

I think I may have just found a way. Hooray for forum search! Now to see if it worked...

EDIT: Yep, it worked. Found an .AAC plugin and everything is a-ok.

You could wait a month - CorePlayer will have AAC available to it too, IIRc.

Yeah, I'll do that. The PDA doesn't seem capable of handling that quality of audio, though. The video plays fine with the audio disabled, but once I enable the AAC, here comes the jitters.

I'm just going to re-encode those AAC files to a different audio format.

You wouldn't believe the difference a good decoder makes - I've had video which stuttered with one PC become silky-smooth after changing codecs, without changing any other equipment, due to more efficient processing.

Well, the problem is there isn't any available codecs or AAC decoders for TCPMP that allow for smooth play. Yet.

That's why I said "Wait for COREPLAYER", which has those codecs. I've repeated it about three times in this thread and another one now.

And I'm going to wait, but I have to have a workaround in the meantime.

Try disabling ALL running programs, then reinstall TCPMP and the AAC decoder plugin. See if that helps you - others have been running fine with AAC and TCPMP. I don't doubt that CorePlayer will be more efficient, however, based on my experiences with CoreAVC - and they're porting this to WM as well, as part of CorePlayer.

Heh believe me, I've reinstalled TCPMP and the plugin probably 8 times, and four different versions to boot. It never changes, jittery every time. Maybe it's just the certain batch of files I'm using with AAC audio. I haven't tried many others.

I'd suggest, if you have access to an encoding program, that you do an encode using DivX and AAC of a small video, then try viewing it to see how the decoding does.

I have a small (1.5 minute) clip of 640x480 Xvid, AAC audio, and it plays just fine. It must have been the batch, then.

EDIT: Wait. The small clip is Xvid 23.98fps, 44.1KHz AAC. The file I was having trouble with before is Xvid 29.97fps, 48.0KHz 6ch AAC. The framerate and audio rates are much higher -- perhaps too high?

Try setting the bitrate to around 300-350 (you shouldn't need higher than 400 with the 640x480 screen) with a FPS of between 25-29 and audio rate of 22KHz or 44KHz with 48 as the ceiling.

I don't have an encoder to make AAC files. I'm using PocketDivxEncoder, but I'm new to it. All I can do is .mp3.

As for bitrate, well, I set it at "2866" with no units. 2866 what? Regardless, it plays just fine at that bitrate, whatever it is (using .mp3 audio).
