Virus software?

I was just wondering if you really need virus protection for the PPC. I have seen ads for virus software for PPC's but haven't really seen any reviews or if it was really needed.

I "know a guy" that is beta testing Symantec's new AV for PPC.... he has yet to find or come acrosss anything that could be a threat.... maybe he is just lucky...... but oh, how he has tried to infect it.

Personally, I've never come across a virus that is written to attack a Pocket PC. However, you never know what the future will hold.

p.s. If you don't use your PPC to browse the Internet, then there is really no need for this anyhow. Most of your PC anti-virus programs now have support for PocketPC while it is in the cradle. So if your Axim is not DIRECTLY connected to the Internet, McAfee or Norton should work fine on your PC to keep it from sending any viruses through the cradle.......again, assuming that there are even any viruses that will attack a PocketPC.

I downloaded PC-Cillin for the PPC fro Trend Micro. It scans pretty quickly but the file date is very old. I know when I used to use a Palm, Symantec on released updates for virus definitions every few months but this is like a year and a half old! :crooked:

The way i understand it is that virii written for desktop windows machines will not affect pocket pc cos the operating system operates very differently.

The fact that pocket pc's are becoming more common probably means it wont be long until we start getting virus outbreaks but for now i wouldnt worry.
