I’ve published many articles on the previous versions of the great browsing alternative, the Midlet-based Opera Mini. (See for example this complete tutorial on installing version 2.0.).



The new features it includes (the complete list is also available here): RSS, sharing, improved speed etc. This means you WILL want to upgrade to it.

If you would only want to see how it works without actually installing it on your device, check out the online emulator.

Installation

It should be installed in exactly the same way as 2.0; therefore, please see the tutorial for 2.0 (see section “A step-by-step Tutorial on setting up Opera Mini”). Also note that if you want to install it for the latest IBM J9 midlet environment, you will also want to read this.

Verdict

Go get it if you already are an Opera Mini user. If you aren’t, go check out my Web browsing-related articles to see how it compares to other Web browsers on the Pocket PC.

How does this compare to Opera 8.6 for Windows mobile?

I am posting this from the emulator that you gave the link to. I have to say this is a good browser, considering its a phone. Last time i checked the ppc version wasnt this good!

The programme the OP describes is not for your Axim. It's written for mobile phones.

8.6 is for Pocket PC.

Let me disagree. I've explained in my tutorial how you can make Opera Mini work on the Pocket PC. It's not at all complicated.

Opera Mini 3 is very impressive on my phone. Hope they release an update for the PPC version too.
