Very much appreciate a brief listing of steps on the use of FreeOTFE4PDA.

TIA...
Once you mount the volume, look into root (My Device) directory of your PDA. You will see there a new directory called FreeOTFE Storage or something similar (you can set the name in mount dialog) . You can use it just like any other directory. Once you're done, dismount the file from within FreeOTFE. The directory will then disappear from file explorer, and your data will be hidden in encrypted container.

I did run into a weird inon-PDA ssue: when I try to copy files from a TrueCrypt container into FreeOTFE container on my laptop (W2K SP4) the system freezes. When I do the same on my Win XP home PC, it works like a charm.

I just wanted to follow up and say that this utility is awesome! I haven't tried any large volumes yet, but for encrypting just the "important stuff", this utility is easy to use and seems to work very well. AND it is free!

Mad props to the developer! :approve:

Awesome......

Any comments on speed? Does it have a big impact? Small footprint? How small?

If you only keep the algorithm and hashes you want to use - then it can be quite small. I only keep AES, and the SHA hash. Total size with the program EXE and DLL is 263k.

Speedwise, the time to copy and move files over to/from the mounted container seems negligible - I haven't tested it objectively though. The less algorithms and hashes you have in the folder, the faster it will run btw - so discard any you wouldn't use. And if you're concerned that someone would know which algorithm you've used by looking at the ones in your OTFE folder - well, so far, AES hasn't been broken, so I wouldn't worry about it.
