Best chatting program?

Besides IM+ are there any other chatting programs (i mainly use AIM) that people want to recommend?

Is there any that will show pop-up notifications if you get an IM while you are in another program?

Agile is a good alternative, but unfortunately, no longer free:

If you like the AIM client for PPC, that works fine. You can get it at AIM UK.

here's a link, I just downloaded it:
http://info.aol.co.uk/aim/wince/index.html

On the desktop, I recommend GAIM portable or the portable applications suite on sourceforge.net (it includes GAIM). Put it on a memory stick or card and take all your chat logs with you! It's incredibly useful.

You mean even the old beta wont work for free?

If your just going to use aim, you should get the uk aim software.

As far as on a pc, you can download software, or if your on the go, use meebo.com, you can still have an aim profile, keep chat logs, buddy chat, and more...

I was not successful in connecting with Agile Messenger. I had used it in the past and was pleased. Then, somehow, the battery died completely requiring a hard reset and everything had to be reloaded. I did no communication on my Dell X50V for months. When I decided chat was desirable I downloaded a new copy of Agile from PocketGear and tried it first. As stated, no success - it simply would not connect even tho email and IE are working fine. I am going to try IMOV or IM+.

My preference for chatting is: the phone.

no cramped fingers, no annoying popup messages.

For the chatting long distance, there is skype

I find that Skype is a wonderfull chatting program, the only problem is that it has a large footprint.
