Does anyone know of a free "plug-in" or application that allows you to view your contacts by category? I know that Pocket Informant and other "not free" applications allow you to view your contacts by category but I don't need all the other frills that these applications provide. I know that I can filter by category but it only allows viewing by name and by company name. I tried searching here and on the free software sites but could not find anything.

Are you using Outlook to create your contacts? If so then you can customise the categories list to include all the categories that you need and if not then you can do the same in Contacts by using the add/delete screen. Then all you have to do is ignore the "View" button at the bottom and instead use the "Show" option at the top of the screen to then filter by category. I don't think there is a limit to the amount of categories you can use and equally you can assign more than one category to each entry making the filtering more accurate.

I don't know of a way to allow more options on the "View" menu as I suspect that is really what you were looking for.
