Installed apps not showing as installed after hard reset

After a hard reset, none of the programs installed to the CF microdrive show up as being installed if I open the Remove Programs list.

I did make lnk's to them In the \Start Menu\Programs folder, so they to appear in the Programs screen, bat how do I show them as installed?
Thanks.

That's because all the registry and the bits and pieces that is also installed into your Pocket PC when you install it into your CF is gone when you hard resetted. Don't think you can add it back. I would advice you to install all your programs again.

Yes, unless you used backup software to backup the image before hard reset and then so a restore, it does not appear there is other way to recover those settings.

Similarly, you cannot expect apps to install and work on a card with one pda, and then take out the card and be able to use it on another pda.

Yep, a hard reset wipes everything. Gonna have to reinstall unless you backed up before the hard reset.

Yes, I did back up with Sprite BU utility... then restored. I do exclude the dll & exe files when backing up in order to save space. I also excluded the registry when restoring because I knew there was something screwy in there... guess that was the price to be paid to get rid of it.

Still, although they do not show up on the installed programs list, the CF-installed apps work fine. The sole real problem is that I can't find their help files.

Help files are usually installed to the Windows directory and are usually in htm format.

You should not exclude the exe and dll files when you do a backup - those are usually the most critical files for programs to run. And excluding the registry when doing a backup seems to defeat the whole purpose of doing a backup.

Did you check "Storage" in Sprite before you backed up? You need to backup the Program Files in the CF card

The registry is the overall configuration repository for the Windows operating system. Without that the OS has no way to determine how it is to run or how programs under it are to run. Programs, whether applications or system, are usually .dll or .exe filetypes, so without them the programs cannot run either.

You may not need to backup "Persistent Storage" nor "Memory Cards" (e.g.: CF; SD), depending upon what you are planning to restore. Based on your original post, I would probably recommend backing up persistent storage, but not the memory cards; however, I would backup the memory cards to a PC via a USB card reader periodically. There is a detailed post linked to off of my website about backups if you are interested.
