and I love it! This little program is perfect and does some really neat things. Before I suspend the Axim when I'm done, I just click Close All and I'm assured that all programs are stopped and closed. By far though, my favorite feature of Magic Button - the little battery gauge that runs across the top of all the pages. How cool is that? I always hated constantly going into Settings, Power to check the battery life. Thanks to this website for linking this cool free program.

And there are alot more great suggestions, links and tips where that came from. Glad you like it.
Yeah, these programs are really nice, and I used MagicButton for a long time myselb, but afther I get used to iLaucher, its crap :D.
iLauncher gives you both, a minimizing / closing option like MagicButton and a really nice bar in the top of your screen with information about your battery, and all other things (memory, cf card usage, sd card usage) ...
I had Magic Button and it is great, but got Spb Pocket Plus which has many more features as well as the close program button. It's not free, but also not very expensive for what you get. Great program! You might want to give it a look too. :)
There's a program on your X51 CD called Battery Pack Lite. It is free for Axim users and it provides two applications on your Today screen: a battery / memory / brightness adjuster bar, and a program launcher. Now, at first sight the launcher doesn't allow you to specify what programs it will show. However, if you use a registry editor (I personally prefer the one that's built into Total Commander - also freeware), you can very easily change shortcuts to point to the programs of your choice. There's a thread about it somewhere on this site. That and the Magic Button will give you the benefits of iLauncher at no cost.
Oh, and btw, if you get MortButtons (also freeware) and map as an incon to Battery Pack's launcher bar, you'll have a very quick access to all your programs.
All I can say is, to each his own. I personally like magic button's ability to switch applications or going to today screen just by tapping on an icon seen on the taskbar. I don't have to tap and hold, and then select the application I want to use or close. I currently installed iLauncher 3.0.03 for trial, while it has lots of features, it's a bit redundant for me since I have other programs to compensate for those features (eg. sreenshot-resco picture viewer). Nice program but it's not worth my money, it's going to be uninstalled immediately.
BTW, I don't have to tap-and-hold with iLauncher, either, a single tap does it to bring up the list. But iLauncher does not (yet) have the running icons list across the top like MagicButton does, it does take a tap to bring up that list.

Thanks for the clarification. Nevertheless it still takes two steps to switch to another application. Having a "running icons list" (which is the term I was looking for, thanks again) allows me to switch application s faster. The running icons list also has the advantage of keeping you informed, if and which programs are open, (again) without tapping an icon or going to the today screen.
I recently started using magic button and I like it also. I tried vbar and before that a version of wisbar, and they worked fine also. I just seemed to like mb better.
As for the "running icons" list, my version of magic button shows the icons of running programs at the top of the screen, so you just tap on the one that you want to switch to- one tap does it.
OTOH I didn't find the battery gauge. Previously I had found a program I think called "battery watch" and I've been using it. It puts a little icon at the bottom right of the today screen.

If you have the latest(but old, lol) version 2.0 build(51023), tap and hold the MB icon (looks like a house), select settings and put a check mark on the battery status checkbox. That will show magic button's battery meter.
