Well, I got my education in downloading and installing themes this weekend. Got some from dreameesoft. The font colors on the Today screen change so that they are easily readable against the theme backgrounds but not so the items on the dropdown Start menu. With the transparent panel the items are on, most of the themes camouflage the black print so well that they are difficult to read.
How To? Either make the dropdown background opaque or change the font colors to contrast with the theme colors? Anybody??

Theme generators, including the free one from Microsoft, will allow you to change the brightness or transparency of the Start Menu background so you can read the black text against a normally dark background (the text color on the Today screen can be changed, but not the Start Menu text). Why the themes you downloaded didn't have that already done, I don't know. Sounds like a lazy theme maker.

Thanks, I downloaded the free Microsoft Theme Generator but it doesn't show up on my Axim. I can find it on my PC though. Should it reside on the PC or on the Axim? How do I use it? Just a hint or two to get me started should be enough.

Theme Generator is a PC application.
You select a backgroung image of your own and tweak the fog/brightness values to taste.
Select a new image for the start menu dropdown or use the same as the main background. Again tweak the brightness etc so you can read the text. There is no setting for start menu font color that I could see.
Choose nav bar colors, font, etc ... command bar ... notifications etc
Have the Axim synced up and check send to device. Name it.

Create, and voila! It will send and load the theme choices.

Great, Mike. Got it to work. You're right, can't change the start menu dropdown font colors, but you can use a different image behind the menu than what's on the today screen. I chose one with a brighter background and it's fine now.
Still, I am intrigued. Might try that other Theme program you guys mentioned somewhere.
