Anything lighter / smaller than vBar? :O

Hey, how are you doing?

Just for the sake of performance I'm asking this... i want the smaller and lighter task manager available; the only feature I need are closing apps instead of minimizing and task switching.

But... just wanted to know; is another app out there that would leave a smaller fingerprint in memory than this?

Thanks!

How about Magic Button? I haven't used it myself, but reviews seem to like it--and it only uses 40K!

Dan, vBar is only 21kb. Surely you can spare that?

@kryten007: tried MB; although I did like the 'fixed' icon bar besides start menu that'd let you easily switch apps, it crashed a couple of them; plus if you are in other screen beside the program's one (let's say, start menu), and you choose to close that app, it will switch first to it, then close it, then leave you in another app. This vBar doesn't do.

@ajdoc: HandySwitcher... I plain didn't like the icon; there's no 'right' place to put it, it always overlap something...

@davea: Just asking if there's something smaller... :)

@eric: As posted in many threads; way to buggy to be useful

Thanks to all, keep them coming!!!

tMan is quite a lightweight one in a similar style to vBar http://pda.jasnapaka.com/tman/

Switch is a much better alternative to SwitcherBar, works the same but does actually work. http://www.hfrmobile.com/app_Switch_T1/index.htm

SmartTask is also similar to SwitcherBar, but is only about 12K in size... http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/smarttask.shtml

MB and vBar you've already tried...

pBar is another alternative, but it had some issues that while I cannot remember what they are I know I found them annoying.... http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/pbar.shtml

Inclose Mobile is quite bloated, but works nicely... Main site seems to be down at the moment... http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities...sedition.shtml

Those are really the main players, there are a couple of others about but they're either buggy, don't support VGA or are not really WM5 compatible.

Hope this helps :)

If you soft reset instead of using the "X" the memory footprint would be zero and the app would close. ;)

I've been running WISBarAdvance, but just by coincidence I had just been testing vbar and magicbutton this afternoon. On the surface I liked MagicButton best, and I didn't have any problems with my limited testing but I'll try it a little more.
