How do I re-encode mp3s using Resco Audio Recorder?

I know that this is primarily a voice recorder and I've certainly used it for that, but I always thought in the back of my mind that I could use this app to re-encode mps -- or wav files into mp3s as well -- but today, when someone gave me a huge .wav file of an opera recording, I tried to find a way to convert it to an mp3 so it didn't take up so much space on my storage card, but I can't find how to do it.

I tried dumping the song into the playlist, then hitting record with my mp3 options all set, but still, it only records external sound.

Was I wrong in thinking I could re-encode/convert music tracks with Resco Audio Recorder?
If so, what could I use?
Thanks in advance:)

audacity... freeware.

They made a PPC version, but I don't know if it converts. The PC version does everything audio wise

Thanks but I have Winamp, and CDex, and Nero -- come to think of it around a dozen apps on my desktop that encode mp3s; strange that they're so many apps that do that on the PC but not on the PPC...kind of sucks.
thanks anyway...

Yup; see the "Can convert offline files?" row in the Audio Recording Bible ( http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/men...corderApps.asp )

I prefer doing the conversion of wav to Mp3 or vice versa with FlexiMusic Wave Editor.
