PIM Data

I know this has been asked before but I can't find the answer.

Is there a way to move PIM data out of main memory and into BIS or a storage card? Can I do this with SK Tools or MemMaid?

You can backup PIM database onto SD or CF

Start>Programs>Data Backup

Will bring up options
O Backup all data
OBackup PIM database only

Back up to: choice of SD or CF card
Filename: "your choice of names".dbk

Recommended that you connect to external power before performing backup (i.e put it in dock or ac adapter)

How much main memory can be saved by backing up to SD card?

It seems that there are two separate discussions going on here:
  • Moving PIM data out of main memory
  • Backing up PIM data

In the first instance, while it would theoretically be possible to move the PIM databases out of main memory, the PIM applications would then no longer be able to use that data, so it is somewhat less than useful to do this.

In the second instance, it is always advisable to backup, and not just PIM data, but all data. Further, backing up to a removable memory card (CF or SD) can significantly reduce the risk of data loss and reduce the time needed to restore that data. However, backing up to an SD (or CF) card does not save any memory, unless, of course, your current backups are being taken to main memory!

You are absolutely correct, AKA. While I do advocate backing up your data, this was not my original question.

My question is whether it is possible to move PIM data to a storage card or other area outside of main memory and have it accessed by my PIM from there. This would save a considerable amount of space in main memory.

Apparently, it sounds like this would not work. :(

But if you do that, will your PIM be able to locate the data? I'm not looking to archive it. I'm looking to access it somewhere other than main memory.

why are u tryin to do this? it won't access any faster and it will be harder to sync since AS doesn't do storage cards.

Too free up space in my main memory. So, my original post was is this possible. It sounds like it is not though.

The only way I can think of to save a bit of main memory would be only to sync the last 2 weeks of data instead of everything. If you're already doing that then...

Crap. If Gigi doesn't have any way of doing it...then no way exists. :(

Move NETCF to a storage card that gives more free space, about 5MB and is easy to do. More info here 11th message.
