What happened to Minimo?

What happened to the Minimo web browser that the Mozilla people were working on for mobile devices? I have been checking the project's web site for quite some time and have seen no updates of any kind. Version 0.016 is still the latest version. Have they been too busy working on Firefox or what? Can someone please tell me?

I am sad as well - it was ... well it wan't so good, but it was definitely better than IE and it was getting better every release. And now, it's been 0.016 for a long time I've given up hope that they will update it someday. Sad - it's been a cool freeware project, just like Forefox is.

It suffered a severe case of featuritis, they were putting in strange features like gps support rather than improving rendering speed and the project has gone through a slow death. The author made some statement saying that the mobile browser market was saturated (wtf, Opera, Netfront and IEM is saturated?!) and it is difficult to get a new browser onto a device due to the mobile operators, as if we can't do it ourselves...

I think they are looking to see if another developer wants to take it up.

that thing was buggy,it kept abruptly crashing ,it made the soft keyboard always on the screen(covered the softkeys),and it took up all RAM(couldnt run anything else while it was running).

Basically nothing. Still being developed. The last nightly build is dated 1/9/2007
You can download here

I think it works quite good on my device. Here's a faq.

Just installed Opera Mini too, works great and very fast.Only it can't handle landscape.

I too would like to see Minimo rise from the dust

It definitely had some bugs on the X51v.

It would crap out the video on very long web pages, it hogged all the RAM, and it sometimes locked up the PDA.

But the interface was clean, it ran quickly, and I liked the icons along the side of the screen.

I hope someone takes it back to the original Firefox ideals of lean, fast, and customizable. :approve:

I ended up using the nightly build from 1/6/07 cause the later ones didn't run correctly.

You are crazy. For a guy without a normal job (I'm only 15) and no access to a credit card, Minimo is the best browser you can get for the dell axim.
