Microdrive support for CorePlayer

Sorry for the stupid question, but I can't find the answer in any post. Does the current version of CorePlayer support microdrives? I know TCPMP did, but I have version 1.0 of CorePlayer and there is no option for microdrives. Just wanted to find out if updating would offer that option. Thanks

Yes, the current version has the buffering options page that allows you to enable Microdrive mode, like TCPMP does.

If I may... what's the difference that it makes from a Flash memory or a microdrive? What does this 'microdrive' mode do?

I ask because I know that micro. is slower, +power, spin up time (lag), etc (own a LifeDrive too... :( ), but how does it work in a PPC? If you are asking if 'X' application supports it, then it isn't as transparent as a standard Type I CF card... is it? Specials considerations to be have?

Thanks.

I believe this is simply a read ahead buffer, so that you are not aware of the lag and also, depending on what you are doing, it can potentially read it all to memory and not have to keep accessing the drive. Short answer, cuts down on drive access.

Mmm... drive access would be the same since ALL file would have to be read one way or the other... :)

If more buffer is needed, then that's in order to compensate the SLOWNESS of the HD compared to the flash memory :(

dfintak, my version of Coreplayer 1.04.716 has a Microdrive mode... Menu -> Tools ->Options, then Select Page -> Buffering.

If it is not there then you may need to log in to your account on Mobihand to download the latest version. AFAIK Mobihand is the only place you can buy Core...

Axzilla answered it perfectly, microdrive mode is not to compensate for speed, it's to compensate for the extra power drain associated with a microdrive. Rather than constantly spinning the drive you load a lot of data into a big buffer and then allow the drive to spin down and spin up in when the buffer is nearing empty.

For just mp3s the standard 14MB buffer could be anything up to 15 minutes, which means the microdrive would not be draining power... for video the time would be a lot shorter.
